FM18 editor CA, Recomended CA and PA?
I am confused by this, i try to increase the PA but the scout report doesn't increase the overall rating for PA?

Some player has a PA of 179 but CA is only 150 and the coach report is already at his maximum rating.

Could be the ability of whoever is giving you the report.

As far as I understand it:

- The current ability refects the existing stats.
- The difference between the CA and Potential ability shows how much the player can improve. The max PA is 200.
- If the recommended CA is HIGHER than the CA then the player can get some stat growth that month (depending on his training schedule, your coaches and facilities, his playing time, the level of the league he's playing in and if he's being tutored, possibly how well he performs in the matches he plays too).
Note: If you lower the players CA his stats will drop sometime during that month.

If the recommended CA is LOWER than the CA then you can expect some stat loss. This will probably be down to things like injuries, age, playing time, performances, training schedules, coaches and facilities and level of the competitions he's been playing in. e.g If you buy a player from a bigger club that had better facilities, better coaches and was in a harder league then you may see a drop in his stats in the first few months after he joins. You also tend to see stat losses in the summer break.

N.B. All the above is an educated guess on my part after playing FM an unhealthy amount of time over the last 8 years. Only the devs know for sure though.

P.S. One thing I've noticed is that even if two players have pretty much the same CA one may still be better than the other. I assume this is either because they start from a different base amount and/or one develops better than the other, due to stuff like personality, level of coaching, facilities, match time and competion level, one played in the first team at a younger age, etc.

Basically just because one player has a higher CA doesn't mean he's better than one who's a bit lower so you still need to compare their stats. It's also worth remembering not all players reach their max potential. Those with very high determination are more likely to do so plus if they've had top training, plenty of high lvl game time , etc.

I suggest experimenting on some players you're not bothered about to get a feel for this.

Hope that makes sense and is helpful.

I think you have it about right Spelunker, although a bit confusing to read. I will try and straighten it out a bit::

Under the hood, players are given a CA rating, and a PA rating, both of which are out of 200.

So let's take a youngster, with high potential - your scouts tell you he could be a world beater, he has a CA of 100 but a PA of 180.

In effect, there are 80 'points' (180 minus 100) that can be spent, while developing the player, on any or all of his attributes. How these points are distributed depends entirely on his training, position, PPMs as well as his professionalism. ambition, determination - he might never reach 180 .

So, you train him as a Poacher, you are 'spending' some of those 80 points, which will be distributed around the attributes a Poacher needs. You play him as a CF, so a few more points are spent on the attributes a CF uses. You individually train his Pace, so points are spent there as well, and so on and so forth.

If everything goes well, and he develops as recommended, he will reach his Potential and have a CA of around 180 by the time he reaches 24 years old or thereabouts. There are very few players though, who, in their prime, are running a CA that matches their PA under the hood - there are nearly always a few 'points' left to spend somewhere.

There are so many contributing factors in player development that it is almost impossible to know exactly how a player will turn out, or whether he gets close to matching his potential. State of the facilities, quality of coaches, personality all have a bearing as odes the actual training you set.

So, when your coach says he is a 3* CA players, with a 3* PA - then the star rating could span something like 25 points in the CA/PA (in your case 29). So, he could have a CA of 150 and be at the bottom end of the 3* range, and a PA of 175 and be at the top end of the 3* range. (not accurate figures - just plucked out of thin air for the purpose of example)

Remember the coach is only giving you his opinion of the player in relation to the rest of the squad.
