Can't join online game - "A network connection is required...."

I can't join an online game or even get to that screen. On the homepage when I click 'join online game' I get error message "Join Online Game - A network connection is required in order to play football manager online. Please ensure that you are connected to the internet and that Steam is online before continuining."

I am online. Steam is online and connected. I have been launching the game through steam. I think it might be something to do with the dodgy update that doesn't update - if I check for update the same update from 12 Oct keeps on showing up, I install in, restart steam and the update is still there...

Any ideas? Thanks.

something with firewall ? Can your frind join your game, if you start one ?
