That being said, I will watch the video and come back to say what I think of the game, if it does look like a "Mobile game" or not.
Edit: Watched it, I think the game looks pretty for certain, can't know for sure about what I think about the gameplay because IGN is run by people who don't play videogames. Will have to wait for proper gamers to play it first.
For me, when I read mobile, I think:
- oversized UI
- bad controls
- simplistic and dumbed-down gameplay
- tiny zones/maps due to hardware limitations
- bad and simplistic itemization
- reliance on microtransactions and loot boxes/gacha
From what I saw in this video, I saw none of that, but my concern remains that the game may be overly simplistic and not very interesting - thus very low replay value. I did not watch the whole video so I did not see glimpses of the UI windows such as inventory, skill and character windows so I can't say anything else.
But it doesn't look like a mobile game, but I'm concerned it may be too dumbed-down - just action combat and collecting loot. I hope for some light puzzle solving, some dialogue, some story, maybe some simplistic crafting like rune words or gem slotting like in Diablo 2 - put an emerald into a weapon - get poison damage, put it into an armor - get poison resistance, put topaz into a weapon - get electric damage, put it into an armor - get electric resitsance and so on. Also some skill points so you can choose how to advance your characters.
My other concern is that they are showing pre-developed characters and one major word they use is "Co-Op" so I'm concerned it might be some session-based where you get 4 people and join a single scenario, kinda like a dungeon in an MMORPG and after you complete it, the game ends and you have to pick another one.
That's not IGN, thats design.
it's hard to tell what's going on. There's no way ( at least in this vid ) to know how long your skills are on cool down, how long they last or what they even are and what they do. If there are buffs and debuffs, there's no way to know as they're not shown on screen. Another thing is there is an obvious loot system, problem is that it's never shown. The inventory, if it exists, is never opened or investigated in any way.
Big problem for me is, if that wasn't all bad enough, wheres the charm? The cinematic at the start was nice but after that it's gone. None or at least Few of the enemies speak, the characters your play as barely even grunt, let alone speak to one another, there is 0 interaction between them.
The whole game looks fake. I was really excited for this, but if no improvements have been made since this, i hope Tech Demo for windows XP, then hard pass
