Can't continue because it won't register me left clicking

so I'm at this part pretty early on in the game where I am with Boris and in order to continue onward I have to left click to pick up a flashlight located on a table. I will hover my cursor over the flashlight, it'll glow, and then... not pick up. I have tried on multiple occasions in case it was just a small bug or something but it still won't pick up.
My mouse is completely fine and the left button on it works as normal outside the game.
I don't know what's wrong, I even googled the basic controls for the game and yeah, left mouse is how you pick up stuff lol.
I don't know what's wrong, any tips or fixes for this? Thanks in advance

I always pick up things with the E key. Maybe try that?
