Steam Error
This morning I attempted to open Bendy and the Ink Machine but a steam error pops up stating "An error occured while updating Bendy and the Ink Machine (missing executable"
C:\Program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Bendy and the ink machine.exe

I've tried verifying the game cache and clearing my download history to no avail. I am not very computer savvy. And when I go to the game's store page it says I have already purchased the game so I can't buy chapter 2, 3, and 4. So if anyone has figured out how to resolve this problem please enlighten me?

I just found a way, you have to remove license of the game...

On the upper right corner click your account name and then account details.
In the Store & Purchase History section go to "View licenses and product key activations" in the middle.
From your licenses page, there's a "remove" button for free products.

Now you could buy the game...

I'm having the same issue.

Same issue here too. I uninstalled the game and when I go to redownload it, it instantly says the game is downloaded and ready to play, but the game folder on my hard drive is completely empty and it gives me the same missing executable error you're getting.

@Ne0fito, your method worked for me. Thank you :) . I am sorry for the people who have to spend money on the game's chapters again but at least there is a solution to the issue we have come across.

I believe the missing files has to do with the overhaul in the game's updated remastering.
From the new menu, to even new locations in prior chapters, the old files had to be removed.

Now, this wasn't much of an issue for me, as Chapter One was ALWAYS Free,
and I never got around to purchasing the other chapters (pays to procrastinate, I guess.)

@MetroXLR99

Procrastrinating definately pays off in this situation. Luckily I decided to wait for the rest of the chapters to come out.

Hey everyone. Today my son tried to play Bendy for the first time since October 2018 and of course it gave us the same message as everyone else's in here (missing executable). After searching in here and online in general, I didn't find anything. So this is what I did at the end and worked fine for us.
-Go to the installation folder in your hard drive (mine was C:\Program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\) and rename the file "Batim.exe" to "Bendy and the ink machine.exe". After that you need to rename the Data folder as well from "Batim_Data" to "Bendy and the ink machine_Data".
For some reason it seems that after an update the program is looking for the "Bendy and the ink machine.exe" and the same Data folder.
I hope this works for some of you out there and be able to play again that nice game 3 years later!
