1) Back up your LINKSAVEDATA.bin file somewhere else, then close Steam completely.
2) Go to <steam_installation_directory>\userdata\<your_steamid>\" the folder is named based on the game storepage appid, so it's "622220"
3) Delete the '622220' folder (this is why you make a backup!)
4) Launch Steam again and launch game. Steam will automatically restore the folder from Steam Cloud along with your save data. You should now be able to save.
*EXTRA STEPS FOR PPL WHO HAVE DISABLED STEAM CLOUD FOR WHATEVER REASON
If you have Steam Cloud disabled, start a New Game and manually save so that the LINKSAVEDATA.bin file is re-created. This save should work.
5) Exit game
6) Copy your backed up LINKSAVEDATA.bin from Step 1 file into the 622220\remote\savedata folder, overwrite the existing file.
7) Launch game, you should now be able to save.
Thanks for the reply, but holy hell it was weird for me.
When I did go into the Steam save file location there were actually 2 LINKSAVEDATA.bin files. One of which was practically not there (0 kb). Upon deletion of the second and newer bin file, the game could save again.
