Any tips for using handbrake?
Hey guys,

This is something that I just can't seem to get the hang of it. It feels so random and unpredictable, like you never know what is going to happen when you pull the handbrake. I don't have this issue with other racing games (Dirt Rally, D4, AC or Automobilista) but in this game I rarely get it right for some reason.

It's usually one of these things. One, nothing happens or I end up spinning the car. Which also feels like the car is on a jack and just rotates around its center point.

I've tried lowering and increasing the handbrake's force but it's still very hard to get the proper feel for it. I've got Fanatec Clubsport as a handbrake, no assists and the class is WRC2.

using my clutch pedal:D

It's not easy but it is fun.
Lol if you elevated the clutch it'd almost be a parking brake, except in order to release the brake you need to pull a lever so the pedal goes back XD

Doesn't matter, game treats handbrake always as digital input.

Like either on or off you mean? Not the case here. I have a full range hand brake controlled by the distance that I press the clutch down. How do I know? If I go down a little on the clutch the handbrake only moves a little and if I want the full power I have to go all the way down to give it the full stopping power. I don't go above 1800 most of the time. Granted, the ramp up is rather quick but there is definitely range of motion in there though limited. But, then again I barely need it.

Speaking of digital. I believe anything that causes that counter that goes from 0 to 65535 for whatever input we are doing would be digital.

Lets see.

Digital

relating to, using, or storing data or information in the form of digital signals:
"digital TV" · "a digital recording"

Analog

relating to or using signals or information represented by a continuously variable physical quantity such as spatial position or voltage. Often contrasted with digital.

When I think analog, it clues me into what we use for our pedals. Whether it's "distance of movement" potentiometer or (load cell) pressure based. It would seem that the signals would be both analog and digital. Analog when I press a pedal down followed immediately by Digital so that the computer knows what the ♥♥♥♥ I just did in terms of 1's and 0's of course:)

Yes, I meant that. People complained about the handbrake not being analogue. Are you sure that the amount and not the longer time needed for moving it down and up later makes the difference?
Yes sir, it does make a difference. But, you have to calibrate the clutch(handbrake). Sometimes I wish it didn't have a range and I could just use it as a button you know. The way I really know is when I give it little gentle taps for kink turns or something. But those little taps don't work for the big turns. I have to sometimes press it all the way to the floor for that. Depending on when it starts to bite.

I think it's the same idea though. With a button you hold it longer and with a pedal you have to make it travel further to simulate that hold. For instance when I tried the same distance I did with the quick tap there just wasn't enough strength in the handbrake.

Thinking about how far I press it, I still try to keep it simple so that I only have to worry about 3 to 4 positions in terms of distance. I think thats all I'm getting to be honest. Otherwise it would be really confusing.

Got 3 pedals try it out:) Works for my T150 and T3PA pro pedals.

Analog or digital, there isn't enough resolution and the sensitivity is all screwed up. Bigben had no idea that people from D4, DR, and RBR would show up to buy WRC 7 with real equipment and real skills. Absolutely no idea.

Amen but I'm still staying with them. Who am I kidding though. I am a certified racing w/h/o/r/e. I will buy anything.

Do you think Bigben realized this now and will stop trying to cater to the casual sim racing community/customers? Nobody in this forum has complained about WRC 7 being too realistic or too difficult and I think that's a sign that it is safe to go more hardcore with WRC 8.

The only complaints are things that real sim racers would complain about, i.e. analog handbrake resolution and sensitivity XD

Sure they could go more hardcore with 8. First thing though is to get rid of the fake racers who are all talk. The ones that rely on cheats for bragging rights and then maybe an improvment would be worth it.

When I first got this game it was so rediculous. Players with no time in any racing sim or very little time and then all of a sudden they are getting top 10 spots. That was embarrassing as a fellow sim racer. Embarrassing that our community actually has the scum that would cheat and an overwhelming amount of that shameless spoiled scum.

Do I blame bigben? No, I can't blame them. He's not the one that raised these pieces of ♥♥♥♥. But, with all that said and all the people talking about it. I'll bet there will be better cheat protection next time they get around to making a game. They may even fix the multiplayer so theres always a game going on.

Only time will tell. As for now I just play singleplayer and completely ignore the illegitamate leaderboards except for my friends list of course. I find that single player gives me the joy I'm after. No questions about anything. Just pure rally. No fake ass wana be prodigies to worry about. Just pure racing and earned victories.

AgentRuby, are you still convinced I cheat or do you think I'm legit now?

hahahahahahahaha

I won't know until your within a fists reach and I say that out of love. But for now I will say that you are legit. It's not like you did impossible times. Hell, in 6 I was at 6th place on hafren for about a week right under that cheatin ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ kryspal. Now that's a cheatin ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I've watched your driving NTU and I must say it's not bad. Watch that Kryspal dude lol if he ever comes back. That dude was stopping the clock and everything. I kept wondering why my car was going way faster in the replay (aka) real time. He was going in slowmotion and did the stop clock thing. Then you got the La Premier leave the track and magically fly back and keep on going cheat. As for you NTU, you got some pretty lines. Good driver.
