"Heartbreaker" (like its name suggests) was designed to be complete-able on normal difficulty even with starting units and no levelling [some players here have even done it with just Techs, which is always fun :)] .
Thats also what the breachers are for, as well as the cryovats and pod so you could theoretically experience sending your entire battalion and blowing all your Creds if you so wished and feel the original impact. Earlier versions didn't even have cryovats on offer so you'd literally lose your only one-five person team-- as was the intent. So yes, all this is intended, and at the end, there is a radio message to you that asks if you are still there. Answering yes commits you to the 'new game plus' sans your team. Answering no boots you to the menu without saving. Or just quitting on the spot doesn't proc a save.
I understand you mentioned in a moment of panic you departed, but to be fair, that's just not something that the entire game doesn't technically prepare you for nor warns you if you have living units on the ground.
So just to clarify, did you have any surviving units? If you did not, then all is as intended. If you hated that kind of ending, then i apologize but I felt there was ample warning and your entertainment should have more than been paid for in full by that point.
Just to reaffirm our position- The game is precisely one that is designed to not ♥♥♥♥ with the players time, its not a freemium IAP lootbox grab, as it was developed by people who don't care to artificially extend their own entertainment. I care about putting the mechanics on display, and everything else is embellishment to support the main course.
I can ask Jeff to see if theres a way to hack a save for you if you'd like, to 'reimburse' you with a C and R point value for what you think you'd need to bring back your old team. No promises though.
Thanks again for your feedback nontheless!
That being said, your command helo is immne to the bomb blast at the end of the mission. If you put a trooper with at least 1 XL carry slot, you can salvage the everything back by camping them inside the helo during the last stage of the mission. After the bomb blast destroys everything and completes the mission, you can redeploy him back onto the field and bodybag everyone back to your base.
Perhaps a little pop up warning like the one that tells you all the items lying around on your airship will be sold if they don't get picked up. Something that small will still give ample warning for people who "didn't get the hint"....like me.
Sorry you lost your crew dude. :/
It says 500 but if you actually sit back and kill that many will no more spawn?
The fact all the starting hives have Paranoia organs next to them is sort of a pain, and then once you've moved halfway into the level is when the respawning hives will appear and start spawning in their own gribblies.
Also hate all the flying tumors with the ranged spooge attack spawning, the fact they explode into infectious clouds on death makes this particular level more annoying than others too.
