with my setup my hunter had the top 3 skill line plus the HP one which is first skill in 3rd row at bottom. the bleed is nice the harpoon hook is nice and the stun is nice as well.
for sailor i took the top list of skills the ones that let you remove cards , stun enemies, and immune to overboard
for healer i took thte first line of skills as well. there is a lot of bleed so i took that to elimate bleed.
alternatively i guess i could of gone crafting and gone down the line that lets you reroll dice and some other good things. but this is just what i choose this time.
i did early on get a crafter that specilises in turning blubber to oil. remember to wait a few minutes to allow the blubber to change to oil before you go to town to sell.
like i said though i'm trying to get my hero to lvl 3 skill of man of arms as well as find another man of arms to go with the one i already have to tackle pirates and those 2 hard quests one is main one is a main side quest i think. i tried one time with my hero one man of arms and a regular whaller hunter and managed to get past one wave but died. lol.
there is a lot of good rng in this game. and hardcore players would love ironman feature.
--------------------------------
things that could be improved on that i noticed
sometimes when you buy new character and leave the town it didn't update for me. maybe i forgot to hit OK first idk.
when you have items equped to your men that you want to get rid of that hero can a popup show up saying your about to get rid of a very good item or a way to unequp those items. maybe there is i just think i sold one item by a retiring a guy and forgot had it equped to him.
i would like to be able to rename crew. have more character portraits to choose from. and maybe have an extra skill or perk to choose from. maybe a sexy female portrait or a guy with a peg leg or a hook on his hand idk lol.
maybe a quest to have 2 other main character join your crew and you can customize them.
i think some things could be tweaked a little. like have one line of skills pure ship skills, one like boat skills, one line combat. and i know combat is divided into killing sharks, whales and humans ie quest enemies and pirates.
i see great potential in this game. and especially with some pirate movies coming out very exciting. love the card combat.
very cool fighting those legendary whales and the gold around their portrait.
kinda scary before entering a battle never know what you are facing. sometimes i tried retreat button and had some problems sometimes. usually just sat there until i died and reloaded my last save.
thanks for letting me share.
but 95 percent has been positive. these other things are just where i see some opportunity to improve a great game furthur. also an auto combat while your hero is fighting would be a cool feature i would like to see.
since against pirates and some humans you can't use yellow or blue dice at all so with my main hero my plan is to go hunter/healer and get the revive on him.
at lvl 13 my main hero has idk 80 something or 90 hps. there is one hunter that can have 60 hps but i haven't been using that one. the combat abilites of the 40 hp guys i'm liking better.
but with my main hero he will almost never die so having that revie on him he could maybe make use of that skill.
anyways thanks for letting me share.
- There is an "ironman" mode, we call it "Sea dog" and you have to select the option when you start a new game.
- The game is currently not in beta, it feels like a finished game because it is, even if we are always working to add/fix features.
Having a full compliment of level 10s is fine indeed, but don't go crazy on the hunters or else you'll have no lay leftover for yourself. By the end game, I had one whalerman for the "perfect balance" skill and one navigator for the windrider skill and weatherman skill(perfect saves on tossing overboard scenarios). I also had a carpenter for the ability to choose my die side when that skill landed. Man at Arms are useful to level up the cannon, but after you get the max level cannon, only keep one around for pirate fights and fire every other hunter type and focus on survivalists in the late game for maximum survivability.
Healers are almost useless in combat, but they're invaluable in the field because the sick bay is probably the single most used compartment in the game. My science captain focused on field medic and my other healer was the regular doctor. I think lightning related events are checked against your emergency kit skill and the appropriate science level while maimed states are saved by the regular doctor's science skill. I never used the other doctor type that let you gather supplies on land and become immune to disease, probably because my ship was the healthiest and most well fed damn clipper in the world, but I should probably give it a go next time I play.
why cabin boys? well for one they take almost 0 of your pay. and 2nd they spread those positive traits to your captain and the rest of your crew.
the third cabin boy is expendable and use him to just pass on a positive trait to captain and replace him with whatever ship tech i need. then fire him and get a new cabin boy. they reset each year a new set of recruits.
so like for example if i have captain as hunter with 1hp trait tand then pick up 2hp per level skill he will have 100 hps by lvl 13 ish. then use the cabin boy with +1 hp per level for my healer so instead of 30 hps will be 40 to heal and remove bleed. and maybe take a sailor as 2nd guy to take away enemy cards and prevent from going overboard during fights.
that 3rd guy i'm using to buff rest of crew with positive traits or upgrade ship ie sick bey, cabose, triworks, etc.
and try to get those upgrades going in 2 cities if not 3. 2 early so i can hopefully get that medium 6 crew ship.
once i have enough gold saved up and pretige on my captain will start fielding lvl 10 guys but they take a huge cut of pay so trying not to get them too early.
