Finding all the whale spots - such a chore
I'm trying to do it, to finish the level 20 achievment and the all whale spots. But man, they seem infinite, and the missions to find them does not help very much.

Is there any easier way to find them?

Sometimes you can stumble upon them by sailing around without any quest, but I don't think there's a faster way.

You can only find them sailing around if they are active, so you increase your chances by sailing around at the correct times, or finding part of a route and then working out the exact tme.

I don't think you can find them all without the item you equip at the crow's nest that makes it automatic when you pass over an active area, since that makes it much easier to find migration zones.

Quests give you feeding & mating areas but I don't know about migration routes, and migration routes are hard to find unless you travel straight down them, but having the item makes it much easier.

So all you have to do is:
a) equip that item
b) take zone hunting quests as often as possible, once you've found around 32 (guess) zones that's probably it. ZHQs are your best bet for normal zones since it doesn't have to be active.
c) check around each remaining zone that doesn't have a migration at the correct time of year given by the zone to find all of the migration routes.
d) check all migration routes at the correct time to see if it's a double route

c) will be a lot shorter than it sounds because you will already have found most of the migration routes by then. So all you need to do at point c is check the remaining zones, move on if you have the time correct and there's no route, and once you checked them all the achievement should pop.

Yeah, i have this item, but it only discovers while it's active. I already found 34 spots (adding up with migration routes). I'll keep searching for the paths

You can work out when the migration route should be active (if there is one) and sail around the zones. You can also work out whether it's a double migration or a single migration just by looking at the tooltip.

There's a steam guide up that looks like it has all of the routes (looking at it now).
There's a line in that guide in the section about sharks that indicates you can also find migration zones with zone hunting quests (although you'll find sharks instead of whales).

Yeah, got it! It's kind nice to see the map changing while they migrate and mate.

After that, i'll be only missing the love boat achievment (very hard)

If you find a whale spot you can follow the whales to the other whale spot.
