Story Mission Retreats
I love this game, having spent far too much time in the past few days just messing around in Sea Dog mode, learning the ropes. I've died countless times, each time restarting immediately, another lesson learned.

In my best run, I had a beautiful 3-masted ship, and was just sailing between Nantucket, Peterhead, and Honolulu upgrading. I did not want for money, and was only whaling to level up my crew. It was all going beautifully....and then BAM, my glorious captain was impaled by an Old Narwhal's Ambush. One shot. From full health to game over screen. Brutal.

Every other of the many runs since then have ended in sudden, accidental deaths on the Rachel fight. My main irk here is how easy it is to just accidentally start this fight, this inescapable fight that, without an anti-bleeding doctor, is almost guaranteed to result in game over. And you can't afford an anti-bleeding doctor until you get a 6-crew ship at least.

I've had deaths result in other missions that resulted in an unexpected pirate fight - as soon as it would start I knew it was an unwinnable fight, but with no option to surrender or escape, it's just a slow game over.

More than 10 defeats because of accidentally triggered, unescapable story mission fights. Beginning to get very frustrated. Anyone else feel the same way?

I warned ye all ta fear Old Stabby.

*ahem*
That aside I generally don't play games on the super no-save mode. Too many things can go amuck these days. From complicated games crashing, bugged so and so that needs to restore a before event save to real life a friend knocks on my door yelling about how their hand is bleeding. True story.

That's what the all powerful ctrl-alt-delete and autosave are for /s.

Yeah, the first story mission is definitely a problem. If you're unprepared for it, it'll kill you, and it's way too easy to accidentally trigger it.

Having to avoid the entire coastline of South America to avoid getting inescapably murdered by infinite sharks is not a compelling experience.

The main plotline quests are just pretty difficult (for seadog). I did Rachel's early, and even doing Lost Boys with a full crew can be difficult. I'm still on my first Seadog game having avoided death so far so I don't know how bad the trigger range on Rachel's is yet but if it's really that bad they should tone it down too. +Maybe give us a bit more first-time warning on the deadliness of the plot line quests.
