Retro PC Building Simulator
I started as a PC building/tester back in 1992 and I think it would be cool if we had a retro version of PCBS. 386/486 Cpu's, AT Mobos, IDE hard drives, floppy disks, DOS/Windows. A CRT on the workbench to test with. A cassette player for the music lol.

This would be cool.

And a mission "Make Lotus 3 run"... Sounds easy but writing your autoexec.bat and config.sys the right way to get the needed 624 kB conventional memory would be too difficult for most people today...

And don't forget the jumpers on IDE drives... ;-)

I agree they may do retro stuff and that would be fun. But they have to be careful not to go "too far back". The early WinXP era hardware near when XP was released would be fine to start from.

Been Suggested a few times! But I also agree retro stuff needs to be added. But yea, lets not go back to far....New builders born in the 2000's dont even know what an IDE cable is or the old blower case heatsinks are..... :P

What about the drive connections before IDE? 30 pin sims? ISA cards?

I have some 30 pin sims and ISA cards, but I have no idea if they still work.

You think we can get 3Dfx Cards and Creative Soundcards for EAX in here?
Metallos Jun 16, 2018 @ 4:27pm
EAX is outdated since Vista, effects are done by software which is compatible with all DirectX compatible soundcard and not only proprietary Creative crap.

And the Creatives couldn't even make a good stereo sound, even cheaper Terratecs or Audiotraks had better signals at the outputs.

Sound cards are completely irrelevant in today's computers. They were only necessary with really old Pentium-MMX / PentiumII / PentiumIII era computers where the cpu wasn't fast enough to emulate the onboard sound without cutting out. Onboard sound has been good enough for computers since about 2005 -> now. As said above by Metallos as well, even today's creative sound cards do not provide direct hardware access to games. Microsoft removed the ability for games to access the hardware directly with windows 7. The last OS to support that was vista.
