[Gameplay] Original customer parts don't fit with required upgrade
On the story mission where you upgrade the computer you built for Gus Hemhaw with 64GB of RAM. Here's the original computer I built for him, minus the RAM:

The motherboard only has two RAM slots, so i need at least 32GB chips to complete the upgrade. Here's all the chips I have available to buy:

I assume that the different G.SKILL chips are all the same physical size, just reskinned. So, here's what I bought, and what happens when I try to reinstall the customer's CPU fan:

I'm not able to change any parts besides the RAM. I don't want to just cancel this job because it's a story mission.

Unfortunately this is actually part of the game. I would hope you have a manual save file you created from the first time you built it so you can go back and re-build it better again. But the short of it is this: First off this is not a bug. Secondly you did this to yourself with the game. You should of built a computer for them in a way that could be upgraded later. All "Build me a computer jobs" should be built in such a way where you are able to upgrade it if the computer returns later. Give them a board that accepts dual video cards only if you're putting one in right now. Make sure the case can support multiple hard drives and multiple video cards. Make sure it has 4 or more ram slots. Take the heatsink and ram apart after you build it (Before turning it in) to make sure the parts are compatible with being disassembled later. If you don't do this then you can "Build yourself in to a hole" and be unable to complete later jobs.

It seems like you just put the computer together when you first built it but you didn't take the extra steps to try and take it apart again to make sure it can actually come apart. There are several CPU coolers and ram combinations in the game that will not come apart / disassemble once put together due to part conflicts in the game. You have to check that when you assemble a computer for a customer.

Additional information: If you are on PC you have an infinite number of manual saves you can create so perhaps you may want to get in to the habit of creating a new manual save before accepting each job and another manual save before turning it in in the future.

So just be able to see into the future, got it.

The original RAM came out just fine, its just that i can't fit the required ram in with the cooler I can't change.

I'm fairly far into the career mode and this is the first issue I've ran into. I'm not going to make 2 saves for every single story job just because I can't change out parts for one story job that I can usually change just fine for the generated ones.

No you don't have to "see in to the future". It is entirely possible for you to pick computer parts that you intend to be upgraded later if you just put a little thought into it. It's not even difficult. You just have to do it. If you build something that can't be upgraded later then that's your issue, not a problem with the game.

Then perhaps you should of just picked a cheaper cooler that won't have ram clearance issues with ram sticks. There are very basic coolers that don't even stick out over the ram slots. Perhaps you might want to use one next time for computer build jobs.

The game provides you with a way to recover from this situation. If you don't want to use it then you'll just have to cope with it if you end up in this situation.

It's entirely possible to build computers for customers that can always be upgraded in the future and will never possibly have any ram clearance issues like you encountered. You just chose the wrong parts.

I know you can make computers that can always be upgraded, that seems obvious enough. The problem is you can make computers that are impossible to upgrade given the constraints of the mission, being "you can only change this part and nothing else." If this is intentional it's awful game design, so I'm forced to assume it's not intentional, even if it's not technically a bug.

I did end up getting past this by installing a mod to force complete the mission, and thankfully, the next one had me build an entirely new computer.

This game has always been that way since it first came to steam. It's always been possible to (potentially) screw ourselves out of future story jobs because we built a computer wrong on the previous job. I don't know why the game does it personally. Perhaps this is some way that the developers chose to add some difficulty to the game.
