AMD Ryzen 9 Sixteen Core Scores better than a AMD Threadripper 3990X
On the new threadripper, there seems to be a bug that doesn't allow you to get a good score on the benchmark with the threadripper.
1339 - CPU score for threadripper
11342 - CPU score for Ryzen

That's probably because you didn't anticipate how hot the new processors run and the 3990X is likely thermal throttling for you. Build a bigger water loop.

That's not the issue. The issue seems to come in with the threadripper having some bugs.:steamhappy:

I just got 12,703 cpu score for the 3990X. So if you are getting only 1339 cpu score for the 3990X then it is most definitely thermal throttling for you. Make sure you check it in OCCT and if OCCT says "Thermal throttling: yes" then you need more cooling.

Ok. Thanks!

I do wish you wouldn't go around in multiple 3990X topics to spread misinformation in the forums. I tried the best air cooler in the game on the 3990X (the one with the highest CFM Rating) and saw the 3990X go up to 95c and thermal throttle in OCCT. Then I changed it for a large custom water loop (5 radiators, total 705 CFM) and saw it run 61c max under OCCT. Cooling does effect these processors in-game and I can prove it. But you have to have enough. You just aren't giving it enough cooling. I used the same processor in my test by the way, so silicon lotto wouldn't impact it. The only thing changed was the cooling system.

Came here to leave note as this thread is the top google search. I tried several threadrippers with the same temp before OCCT around 53 degrees. Spent all day just couldn't figure out what was going on. After a bunch of swaps, I finally figured out it was the water block video cards that was causing problems.

If you run into threadripper throttle issues, it's definitely heat related. Take out your custom water cooling video cards and go back to fan card setup, at least for 2080ti anyway.

3990x with corsair XR7 420 - 85 degrees OCCT
3990x with corsair XR7 420 + XR5 420 - 71 degrees OCCT

I have not been able to put water cooling cards in. I am using the corsair 1000D case for testing. There may be other cases that allows multiple reservoirs to run two completely separate custom water cooling? Not sure.

Or you could just build it in to a different case that lets you use 7-9 radiators and build a bigger custom water loop. I've managed to get the 3960X @ 4884 Mhz with two water cooled 2080 Ti's in the same system.
