1500X is not an upgrade to the 1300X & 1400
So I'm doing a job right now.
The client has a 1300X in his system, when I put in a brand new 1500X it doesn't register as being an upgrade. (Edit: Same behavior for the 1400 -> 1500X..)

Now the paper specs (that are shown ingame) are the same: 4x3.7GHz @ 65W TDP.
But as we all know, the 1500X is faster than the 1300X (duh), because of SMT and bigger L3 cache.

Is this behavior intended? I'm going to have to switch the client to an Intel system it seems.

I'm not 100% sure of incoming statement, but better say it to avoid any issue.

Doesn't the upgrade not register until you actually installed the CPU cooler and connected it's cable ?

I think the only time a lone CPU actually updates the mission goals is when you install a CPU that already has a factory speed requested as a target for an OC CPU to xxxx speed.

Finally to know if it's a real bug, you may need to either provide pics and/or sharing a save.

Because yes a 1400 (and better) should registere as an upgrade, and it used to work.
Unfortunately, I'm lvl30 and I'm not restarting once more just to confirm bugs, and I don't have anymore such jobs.

So in case of doubt, a share of your save may be a double check from other to confirm bug or not.

While you are correct that the 1500X does have more L3 cache and SMT where the 1300X does not have SMT, but I wanted to note to you that the clock speed is correct in-game. In real life both the 1300X and the 1500X have the exact same: 3.5 Ghz base clock, 3.7 Ghz boost clock, and same 65W TDP.

In real life the 1500x is only +5% faster overall over the 1300X. In PCBS you need to be "enough % faster to be considered an upgrade". The game does not go by paper specs alone. I don't know what the threshold is but a chip that is only +5% faster in real life will never be considered an upgrade in PCBS, no matter what specs differences it has. And this is intended and how the game is supposed to work.

Oh I agree with you. In real life I wouldn't replace a 1300X or 1400 with a 1500X. 5-15% performance gain aren't worth the money.
If what you said truly is the case, then I would have loved if the game somehow would have let me known that it doesn't consider this an upgrade.

I tried to just upgrade for the least amount of money rather than squeezing everything out of the given budget. I guess I'll just work with the budget more in the future.

I plugged in the cooler & CPU Power, didn't do anything.

Good to know, thank's for the info.

I'll keep that in mind for next time.

Well the game doesn't let you mix RAM so I'm guessing this is part of the goal to show new PC builders what's not a good practice because let's face it, as Aquafawks correctly pointed out as well, switching from a 1300X or 1400 to a 1500X isn't generally something you'd want to do.

Allthough ingame the 1500X is listed as 30% faster than the 1300X, so i don't understand why it wouldn't let 1300X -> 1500X count as an upgrade.

Ok, I'm back with a few mythbusting here...
And yes I restarted a career just because I was mad reading all that nonsense about how the game works !

Here is the very first job asking to upgrade from a 1300X
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1851224655
Funnily here are my results about it
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1851224716
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1851224754
Game is clearely registering it as an upgrade right ?

Now few more examples about what the game accepts as upgrades
And usually simply the very next part in the [ Part Ranking ] app should do the trick.

A job needing a CPU upgrade from a G4520
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1851238931
Well an I3-6100 did it. Ok it's there a +25% gap, but it's litterally the very next CPU you can buy in game at this very point
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1851239105
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1851239154

Finally a GPU upgrade from a R9 280 Gaming 3G LE
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1851238974
Upgraded with a stupidely close by GPU in [ Part Ranking ] app
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1851239007
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1851239276
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1851239309

So sorry for all that, but truely in game I never really had any problems with upgrades, and never really overthought them
Use the [ Part Ranking ] app, it never failed me

Finally OP, I truely don't know why your game did not recognise that AMD 1300x -> AMD 1400 not an upgrade, but clearely you see it worked for me.

So more questions.
Are you using mods by any chances ?
What is your plateform ? PC or a console version ?

Yeah I just did another mission that wanted me to upgrade from a 1400 and double the RAM. I just plopped a used 1500X in there and it registered as an upgrade.

I'll keep an eye out to see if that 'bug' reappears and submit a proper bug report if it does.
Completely unmodded on PC

If yoou do so, please do it with pics backing up the issue.
Usually at least the job's mail, so devs could maybe look by mail's name (not sure about that in RNG jobs though)
Pics of the issue with text explaining the issue

Maybe why not even a shared save, so either devs could grab it, or someone else to doublecheck and confirm bug with same end results as you.
