Need some help with an overclock request. He wants the CPU(i5 8600k) overclocked to 5200MHz but I keep getting BSOD. Any idea how to complete this one?

He has an: i5 8600k, MSI Z370 Gaming Pro Carbon, FSP Hydro PTM 750w, Team Group 16gb 2800MHz, and an ASUS ROG Strix RX Vega64 OC Edition.

That's a pretty big overclock for that chip, 5200 Mhz would be +1000 Mhz. Try one of the other Intel processors that are 5000 Mhz already and that probably would be a lot easier to get to 5200. But if you want to keep trying on that system then increase your cooling. Try: Replace all fans with fans with higher CFM rating. Make sure all the fan slots in the computer case are populated with fans. And then swap the heatsink for a heatsink with a higher CFM rating. Then look at the system in OCCT in infinite mode and wait for the power to "level out" and see if you are exceeding the power supply in total power draw of the system.

If the extra cooling doesn't help and if the power supply isn't being overloaded then you may just have a processor from that customer that is crappy in the "silicon lottery". Remember: Not all processors are the same. Every processor in the game has a completely different unique number applied to it. You may have to go through 500 different 8600K's to find one that reaches 5200 Mhz stable for example. Or maybe yours will do it if you increase cooling. Not all processors in this game will all reach the same overclock even if they are all 8600K's.

I bet OP meant 8086-K. Maybe?

Is this a job where you can swap the CPU? If not, then .....
Throw in plenty of high-CFM case fans -- like Aquafawks said -- you can do it!

Aim for the highest total CFM that you can get.

It was simpler than I thought, just needed to adjust voltage to 1.50v.

Thanks for the help though!

there's always overvolting the CPU and replacing it with a better overclocker if you have the budget, the 9600K generally clocks better than the 8086K
