Number 2 is only on Epic since they take most games off steam and put onto their own launcher
One of the reasons I've heard of why Epic was founded was that the creator was annoyed that certain platforms monopolized access to games. This seems antithetical to Epic monopolizing games such as PCBS2. I'm sorry I can't be more specific, it's been some time since I originally read this.
Having said this, I have explored PCBS2 and have come to the conclusion that it is not much better than PCBS, so in my mind Epic can keep PCBS2. I don't need it and I won't buy it. TBH, I'm not sure if I would buy it even if it were made available on Steam.
That isn't even remotely close to why. Rather he was annoyed with the 30% revenue take Steam takes. There is even an email where the CEO of Epic sent to Gabe Newell asking him to lower the revenue share for all developers, only for Valve to only lower it for a tiny minority of games, and he then called Valve a-holes for doing that instead of lowering it for everyone.
The CEO even said that if Valve were to lower their revenue share for everyone they would have stopped doing exclusives and would even bring their own games over to Steam.
The sticking point about Steam for Epic Games has always been about the revenue share Valve takes. Stating that Valve has far higher profit margins than the actual creators of games get, and seeing how Valve's profit margins on Steam is 60% and no game developer no publisher gets anywhere close to that it really shows he is right.
So what would it take for Epic to bring games like PCBS2 or even Fortnite over to Steam? It would take Valve to stop being greedy and lower their revenue share. But since Valve has been greedy since their early years, even abusing their market power to prevent pricing competition from happening through contracts, threats, and negative actions towards dev/pubs that did or wanted to have their games on other stores for a cheaper price (talking about PC stores not selling Steam keys), really don't see Valve deciding to become pro-consumer, pro-competitive, and pro-developers by lowering their revenue share or stop using their market power to prevent pricing competition.
Should be noted that PCBS 2 has a ton of new features that the first game does not have. So keep that in mind. Its objectively a lot better game than the first game.
I can say on this point that the features I saw on PCBS2 did not impress me enough to interest me. So, better game? That's somewhat subjective.
Borderlands 3 was a 6 month exclusive, not 1 year.
PC Building Simulator 2 IP is owned by Epic and was also developed by Epic Games, in partnership with an independent developer studio.
You are missing out on a great game over a petty reason. Why is a store far more important to you than actual games are? Do you play games or do you play a store? Looks like that latter is what you do.
