The DVD drive is not all that obsolete. I still have disc's with programs I need to use. A system with out a DVD drive for me is a obsolete system because it has limitations. So when I built my system, it had to be able to use a DVD drive or it is useless to me. I burn my mods to DVD discs, I watch my movies on my system, I back up files to it. If the hard drive runs into a problem and I have to do a reinstall of windows, the set up disk may not be able to find it, so I slip in the WIN98 startup disk and delete the partition and then I am able to finish the install. I have many uses for it. And DVD/blue Ray drives are still sold in stores besides Amazon. So the Drive is not going anywhere soon. A stack of CD/DVD's are better to stow than a bunch of external drives or chasing around SSD flash drives.

I just was asking because they have a case in the game that supports a DVD/CD/Blueray drive bay, and was wondering about that. Thanks for the reply tho..

As much as I agree with you on this point - I still have one around in my NAS / media server for occasional use - the developers made a design choice in order to keep things simple just like they did with using Omega OS or the decision to have all RAM modules working with every single motherboard.

It's ok, I just wanted to know if they had it or not because they had cases that support the ROM drive, nothing more.
After all, it is not breaking my game, I still love the game, I understand it is just a game. And currently the ARROW system line I been struggling to put out has paid off, I now own 30% of the PC company from my conman uncle Tim, with a demand of the ARROW System line...

They don't have it and personally I think they probably won't have it in the game either. Out of the around 50 different custom computers I've built for people in real life in 2020 (it slowed down a lot that year) not a single one of them ever asked for nor even mentioned an optical drive. 99% of software and games is almost all delivered digitally now in 2021. Most computer users don't have nor use optical drives anymore. It's mostly older folks that have older games still on disc they want to use. If anyone really needs an optical drive they typically just add a external USB one. Internal optical drives have pretty much gone the way of the dodo now.

I do wish in general that optical drives were still around, (both in real life and would also be in the game.) but i do reckognize that theres not too much reason for them in a vast majority of machines though. Still, would be nice to make a sort of pie in the sky dream machine in game with one.

So does this mean asking for a boot floppy is out of the question? I still have some 8" disks somewhere.

Real life? hummm they must be banned where your at. I can find these drives for the computer from Best buy, to Amazon... On another system I recently built for a friend, just like the one I use and was still able to get a rom with no problems, you can even find external types..

That will determine if the case and the board supports it. For example, even tho my case is modern, a bay for the floppy drive does exist, but my board has no plugin for it. So it is irrelevant for my system..

Well, weather what you built for and how many is neither here nor there. I think I made my point very clear in regards to my uses. Did you not see the spot where it says I burn my mods to disc? I also have other mods by other modders burn to disc. So even the idea of older people this or that is point less. I bought a new HP laptop last year and it even came with a DVD burner drive. So you can STILL get the fricken drive. It is not hard.

CursedPanther already gave me the answer I needed to know. And I was good with it. I do not need B.S. excuses to justify why the devs are incapable to add this in on cases that support such a drive. The limitations of what they can do is understandable. I understand enough how games can work that these things can be complicated for certain devs. I found it "ok", "no big deal, it is just a game". Nothing more, and nothing less. I saw no reason to go on with it...

But since NO ONE is "GOOD" with the fact I have marked the correct answer to my question, and want to go on with it. Ok, we can do this...
Oparator Stalker Apr 25, 2021 @ 9:53pm
It is a poor excuse to say "it is more simple", or "here is a statistics on why we do not even need the ROM drive", since I never asked for them to have it. So I THINK they need to put one "IN". To have the cases that have the bays, so they might as well up the repairs to different types by adding them. You can even do this in "REAL LIFE". After all, you can get a typical ROM, or ROM burner type still. So customers can have different problems or choose to switch up based on the drive.

They plug in to the SATA plugs to the board anyway. Should not be that hard to do. How can the Devs for Mechanic 2018 make a very complicated game with over a dozen different parts for fixing and rebuilding cars, and these guys can't handle a simple ROM drive which would fit in a case that supports it?

If they can go through this much trouble to do these things in the game as they did, why put in a case that supports said drive and not have them.
-->Who owns a real gun, carries it on them, but have no bullets? That is the logic. Who spends the extra money to have a case that has ROM drive bays, maybe , but never use them (the newbe's can call it "optical drives", but they are really ROM drives. Means "READ ONLY MEMORY" and can be option with a burner..)?

They should put it in..

Why would you burn anything like mods or such to a physical disc? If it's just for archival or backup purposes just get a cheap flash drive instead. Faster to read/write from, less physical clutter in the house and works just as good for most purposes. Beyond that most folks have some form of home NAS, file server or even external usb drives with a single large hard drive in it. optical drives aren't even useful for backup or data archival any more either. Literally the only real necessary thing they are ever needed for is mostly for installing or accessing very old games, old software, or old backups. There's no actual practical use for optical drives in 2021. Even if you wanted to watch movies most folks stream movies from netflix/amazon/ETC. Movies on physical disc are even starting to fall out of popularity as we move to a more internet-connected world. Personally I have two file servers.. a "Nearline" one that is only turned on once in a while to copy in to or read from and stays offline 90% of the time and a primary file server that I keep on 24-7. My primary file server only has 18TB of space but my "Nearline" one has 244 TB of space on it.

tbh, your way, is "YOUR" way, it is not the RIGHT way, but a way you do things that you see fit that works for you best. Which Your way, is not "MY" way of doing things.
For my uses, each items has it's place. I use my flash drives for other things. Because I am not interested running a stock on flash drives. The only flash drive I am considering to use next is a SSD drive, because that is all it is, a giant big flash drive. And I am not sure if I am quick to jump on that train. I do not own a server company, nor running around living in my tech either. I get what I need. And if that seller does not have what I want, then I will do so myself. See?

Thats like I can stream movies, but in my POV, who gives a *F? I am not impressed, I can stream Youtube vids all day long, SO WHAT? However I have the movies I enjoy watching in a small box. I'll watch these all days. They put out crap now a days. Crappy scripts, bad directing, and many times BS actors who can't make a character believable. For example, a lot of these horror movies, crits rave over it, but in reality they are stupidly predictable to the jumps scares to the plot, which is just as dumb and boring as the movie. Or the movie is copy ref to a old one no one heard of. Like gone in 60 secs. You ask, "did you see the original?" And they like "yeah, oh Cage is the man!". And your looking at them, "that's not the original. It is a cheap poor sloppy remake to give jobs and some actors something to do.". There for the movie thing from Netflix and so forth, sucks.

99% of the movies I watch, they do not even stream, I have to rent what? A DVD! A DVD disc. Well I have such a ROM that does this! ALREADY ON MY PC! Amazing isn't it? So I have everything that I need in the manner based on my own demands. I do this myself because people tend to TELL you how to have things, that this is the way to go, just like how you are telling me. I'm not a sheep nor cattle, I do what I want the way I want as how I see fit. A ROM and Disc are use full for my needs. Some flash drives have their place, mainly on my Dash camera, and vid transfers to the PC. Just like I have a 10TB WIN7 HD with more important stuff and a 6TB WIN10 HD with games that do not run in WIN7, I work 99% out of WIN7 because it can do what I NEED. And use only WIN10 for things that WIN7 can not do, which is why, the WIN10 Drive sits collecting dust. I work on results, not other peoples B.S... And that is the way of things.
