is this still not possible in this game, or am i just stupid and doing something wrong?

It's still not possible. And we now know it will never be possible either: The developers aren't adding any additional content to the game ever again. Critical patches only for PCBS 1 now.

when is it coming like when is pcbs 2 coming out

I wouldn't know and I could care less. It's going to be released on Epic Games only on release so I won't be playing it anyway.

How normal is three GPUs anyway? Like wouldn't anyone with such a specific need just be building their own PC anyway?

You are right. Even in computers that can use 3 video cards there is diminishing returns after a second card in SLI / Crossfire in actual gaming. Something around: +80% performance for a second card but only +30% more performance for a 3rd card, and if someone went that far only +10% or less for a 4'th card. Most of this stems from the systems that have allowed 3-way and 4-way video cards have suffered from a lack of PCI-Express bandwidth to keep multiple cards fed with enough data to make it worthwhile.

i doubt that 3 gpus really are that common. i use them for vfio, although there would be easier ways of doing that. i just thought it would be kinda cool to build my real pc ingame.
