The speed, brand and model
All ram in this game must match, an EXACT match. If the customer's computer has a single 8GB stick that is 2133 Mhz DDR4 made by Shean, for example, then you can only install additional single 8GB 2133 Mhz ram made by Shean. You can -NOT- install a single 2133 Mhz 8GB stick made by corsair, or any other company. It must -EXACTLY- match the original ram in the computer.

Yeah; this is dumb... I had a job that had a single 8gb DDR4 Dominator in it and I wanted to swap it out for 2x 4gb Dominator of the same MHz but could't even though the PC should operate better set up that way.

Quite correct, I want to see Ram installed the way it should be, put in the corresponding channels and 2x'X'GB in dual channel will operate better than 1x'X'GB in single channel.

I'm not sure however if the game has it in its current form for simplicity for new players or new builders in general. It's also more expensive to build a system the correct way, usually not by much but it is none the less.

Perhaps it will be changed in the future and the tutorial altered to explain why dual channel is better, we could also have added specific goals to jobs to state "Install single 8GB Stick now, will up date in the future" etc.. for more variety though I'd only suggest any one (IRL or in game lol) do this if they planned on updating within 1 - 2 months.

At any rate, it will be added to the request list as I would class it as a feature :)

Ram performing faster in dual channel vs single channel, and faster in quad channel vs dual or single channel is already implemented in the game.

Dual channel RAM already improves performance however it doesn't matter which slots you put the RAM in. Just matters that you install more than one RAM stick. Not sure how you missed that, it's been this way for a very long time now. And as far as reconfiguring a customer's PC without them asking, that would be frowned upon in any shop.

This... this is stupid. As someone who has upgrade his own computer, they don't work this way. This is supposed to be a 'realistic' pc building simulator. So why have this?

Because even though you "Can" install mixed and mismatched ram in real life does -NOT- mean you "should". The reason for matching ram in PCBS is to encourage "best practices" in building computers. In real life you should never mix up and use different capacity ram for any reason. This leads to instability and potential crashes. To ensure a smooth running system and greatly reduce the possibility of crashes/blue screens, you really should -ALWAYS- completely match all ram modules installed in the computer, both in real life and in PCBS.

You first need to remove the DDR4 8GB Dominator module, and replace it with two 4GB Dominator modules. In free mode, all my computers have G.SKILL TridentZ RGB DDR4 3866 16GB modules running on Intel 7980XE's and AMD Threadripper 2990WX's. Can't wait untill the 9980XE becomes available in PCBS.

You also shouldn't mix different speeds, brands, capacities, and memory IC's of DD4 memory (i.e Corsair Vengance Pro 4400MHz 8GB, and G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3866MHz 8GB, and Samsung and Micron IC's). As a best practice to maintain compatibility, and uniformilty across ALL memory modules in your build. ONLY USE modules of the same brand, speed, and capacity. Use the memory compatability list (MCL) from your motherboad manufacturer to guarantee compatability.

I used ADATA DD4 2133 (basic) modules for the daughters build

I wasnt aware of the change in performance related to dual / quad channel myself at leaast I havent noticed it, this is good news but lessened when the game doesnt inform the player of using corressponding DIMM slots.

Thanks IRT.

Sadly it doesn't care which slots you put it in, though. :/
