Impossible Overclocking
I took on a job to overclock a CPU to 4747. The CPU is Ryzen 7 1800x and I have managed to get the exact amount. I used base clock 101 Mhz Ratio x47 with a max voltage of 1.5. It still blue screens out on test which shows the cpu as throttled. I have tried every possible combination to get as near or to 4747 as I can.
I have read the OC guides on here but they dont explain it in simple terms.
Any idea where I am going wrong or is it a case of quitting the job and getting a 1 star and negative comment.

Is your CPU cooler and your case airflow good enough? Try with (more) fans with higher flowrate ("CFM", the correct unit would be m³/h).

have you tried using Custom Water Cooling for the CPU?

It may not be possible with that exact CPU. You should be aware that this game simulates "silicon lottery". In PCBS you could literally buy 1000 x Ryzen 7 1800X's from the store and every single one of them will have a different maximum overclock, want different voltages for a given overclock and operate at different thermals. Some may run 100c and thermal throttle at stock speeds without overclocking. Some may run 40c stock and not thermal throttle. It's all completely random in this game. Also, the processors that come to you from customers are chosen at random as well.

You may potentially have gotten a chip that just can't do 4747 Mhz. Not all chips can overclock the same.

I just need clarification on that.
How / when can you have both ?
I mean if it BSOD is it after a good +30 seconds ?

Because if CPU throtle and you don't crash before that, you need :
- More cooling for the CPU (either add case fans, the MORE and the HIGEST CFM) you have access to (caps for emphasis not shouting) or a better CPU cooler.
- And if you BSOD after that, it means probably your PSU does not provide enough wattage, when it builds up, so a better PSU as well.

Now if you Trhottle and managed to get the BSOD anyway in a very small amount of time, since you tweaked RATIO & BASE CLOCK in BIOS, when you change base clock, you NEED to add voltage to RAM as well, and since you talked only about your 1.5v of CPU, maybe that's one of your mistake for the reason of BSOD.

I aint that good yet to install one of those. I cant even find where you buy the stuff, let alone install it lol.

Thanks BonPadre

It says I shouldnt increase the voltage pass 1.5, so I am governed by that really to achieve my clocked cpu. I get BSOD almost immediately the test starts.
My PSU is 750 so that should be enough. I have 4 case fans so thats enough cooling I guess, plus I have an AIO cooler from the cpu.
any other ideas. I am beginning to reject all these clock cpu and gpu tasks because its affecting my star status and reputation.
I am down to 4 stars now. I almost had 5 but because of these jobs that require overclocking and I cant do it, I have lost 1 star. Also a lot of jobs require 5 stars. If you reject a job, does it effect your stars?

Again, I think your BSOD comes from your BASE CLOCK change in BIOS.

When you change base clock speed, it also changes the speed of RAM. So you have to increase RAM voltage as well, so go to 1.65v on RAM.

When you change RATIO, only the CPU voiltage changes.

Also BSOD has a meaning. So maybe read that guide

This game is becoming an impossibillity and I am tempting to delete it forever. I have been given a stupid job now to build a PC for less than $500 and a 3DMark of 2000. IMPOSSIBLE

First, if I remember correctly, it's a story mission job, and still if memory serves, nowhere it says you have to use new parts.

Then you have the level to OC the GPU now I guess ?
If yes, even brand new you can still build that. My build here should do

The cheapest case $ 40 (here it freebuild it shows $30 but I know it's a $40 case)
Mortoni M tech mobo $100
I3-6300 $110
cheapest CPU cooler $10
Shean Powerking 350W $40
2x cheapest RAM 2x$20 = $40
Gygabyte GTX 1050 windforce OC $120
Cheapest HDD $20
1x case fan $10

Total $490
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1820201048

Then you OC the GPU to the max you can
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1820201010
And the RAM to 2400Mhz
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1820202650

And here is the score of that build
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1820200938

Now again, if memory serves and if it's the story mission I think it is (a science thing), you can use USED parts in that job.

And a $460 build

All the chepest parts still (like above) and
Intel Celeron G3930 $40
MSI GeForce GTX 960 GAMING 2G $180
1x RAM $20
Shean Powerking 350W $40

Nothing is OC here

Thanks for that. As you know I am not very good at overclocking. It still doesnt make any sense to me at all, I just reject all the OC jobs. I noticed a lot of these jobs involves overclocking to get the result the customer wants, but it doesnt actually say its an overclocking job.

I installed all that stuff the other night and i couldnt get it to go to 2000 benchmark, but did it again today and its fine. grrrrrr lol

I cant win with this game. I have read the OC guide (AGAIN) and I am trying to a benchmark of 2083. I have increased the clock speed with GPU tuner to 2083 and increased the voltage bit by bit until its maxed out at 120. then I run benchmark and it says the udisplay.drv error which apparently means not enough cooling, so I have put more fans into the box and had to remove the drive bays and now it tells me incomplete case. I just give up with this game. Am removing it.

I thought I may take a moment to inform you that overclocking in this game is very much a random lotto and is not guranteed. Just like it's not a for sure gurantee in real life either. That is: You could have 1000 different GTX 1080 Ti's in game and they all will have a different maximum overclock that actually works without crashing. And they all will have different thermals. Some may idle at 50c no matter how good your cooling (even custom water) some may idle at 30c. It's completely random. You may have (possibly) just had a customer's computer arrive to you that happened to have a poor overclocking card that likes to run hot. It can happen. Just because the customer asked you to overclock the video card to reach a score, does not automatically mean that the card they sent you can actually do that without crashing. Also about the "overclocking lotto" in game: It's very much a lotto in real life as well. Just because I can hit 2.1 Ghz on my GTX 1080 Ti IRL, does not automatically mean everyone that buys the same model I bought can reach the same overclock for example.

I guess you are right. I will persevere with the game and see how it goes.
