Reproducible Bug Where CPU Cover Cannot Be Closed
OS Version: Window 10
Version: 1.10.0
Type of bug: If the player disregards instructions, proceeding becomes impossible or very difficult
Affected Part(s): CPU, Hard Disk Bays
Steps to reproduce:

1) Start a new career mode game.
2) Take first PC to the bench
3) Ignore prompts and instead open CPU and remove CPU from computer
4) Reinsert CPU
5) Try to close CPU cover. This cannot be done.

Immediately after the CPU is installed, the tool changes to "Cabling" and hence the CPU cover cannot be closed. It is impossible to return to the CPU installation mode because no other CPUs exist in the inventory. The customer CPU *cannot* be reinstalled, baring a strange workaround.

Possible Workaround:

1) Go to work PC and purchase any CPU from the store.
2) Wait for it to arrive and add it to your inventory
3) Return to customer PC where you are unable to close the CPU lid
4) Open the inventory screen, select the CPU from the inventory. This can be an incompatible CPU.
5) The Tool will now be in install mode with an "incompatible CPU" message on the screen. Ignore it and and you can close the CPU cover on the customer CPU.

Related bug: The same thing happens if you try to remove and reinstall the hard drive on the very first PC in Career mode, instead of you being unable to close the CPU cover, you will be unable to close the drive bay.

Related bug: A similar, but unrelated, problem occurs if you try to apply CPU thermal paste to a CPU before closing the CPU cover. The game will not allow you to close the CPU cover unless you return to the inventory and pick another CPU.

My question is why would you ever bother with the CPU in the first computer given to you? That asks you to scan for viruses, not touch the processor. Even if this is a bug there is no logical reason to ever touch that part of the computer. You shouldn't even be opening it or touching any internal components. Just scan it for viruses and put it in the hallway and otherwise don't touch it.

Yes, I understand. I sometimes use PC Building Simulator as a demo in a class I teach and I sometimes just launch the game in career mode to demonstrate something quick. So I wasn't really "playing" the game, which is why I ran across this problem. It's not inconceivable someone could run the same problem, so I thought I would report it.

It's somewhat counterintuitive, but for future reference, closing the CPU shield/hold-down is done in "Remove" mode (2 key by default).

It's the same for manipulating components such as drive bays, ram clips, pci locks, etc.

After this initial (tutorial) job, the game usually defaults back to "Remove" mode anytime you install a component. I guess the programmer didn't expect anyone to go further than removing viruses on the tutorial job.
