Impossible job
I got a job to replace a motherboard that I can't do because the motherboard that needs to replaced is above their budget and a requirement for the job is to be under $160 so now I don't know what to do about it

Could you specify the motherboard? Manufacturer and model name?
Is it possible to exchange it with a cheaper one following these requirements:
- same socket
- same chip generation (Kaby Lake - Skylake - Coffee Lake)
- same chipset

It was the GIGABYTE GA-B250M-Gaming 5 which is the only b250 motherboard and I've tried replacing it with the B360M AORUS GAMING 3 which is $160 but it says it's an 'inferior motherboard' even tho I think it is better, no?

you have to replace it with the same one you took out

So on the missions where the PC is created by "the player" at some point prior to the diagnose and fix mission anything that breaks can be replaced like for like regardless of budget. At least that has been my experience so far [currently level 16]. So try the GIGABYTE GA-B250M-Gaming 5 [even if it is first hand] as a like for like replacement do a test save, make sure any other requirements are fulfilled and see what the customer says.

So that is the exact motherboard I use which is $170 motherboard so I literally can't use that motherboard which is the motherboard that came with the pc which was broken, hence having to replace it, but only having a $160 budget so beginning to feel like I literally cannot do this job

Sorry, which ever model your broken motherboard is, try the like for like replacement with a new one even if it costs more. It should still pass as it is not an upgrade or downgrade.

Yes, you can do this job. Please note that it ALWAYS possible to overreach the budget for 10%. In your case 10% would be $16, so you can have $160 + $16 = $176 as "invoiceable amount".
As the others stated your mission _could_ be a story mission. Then budget would not even matter, even if it is stated by the customer. If you want to test this, you could save your game manually and then install something very expensive, therefore overreaching more than 10%, and send it back to the customer. If you do not get a 1 star rating for this job, it was a story mission indeed. Otherwise you can reload and try something else.

I don't think you guys understand, correct me if i am wrong with that but, I literally cannot do this job bc the objectives are: 'PC can boot to OS (Obviously) Replace Motherboard and Spend less than $160' so i think the only thing I CAN do is just keep the pc
jelledecnodder Feb 25, 2021 @ 5:30pm
I guess she means the budget aint the issue... under $160 is a Hard objective, you cannot finish the order without staying under it...

So you are saying that 'Spend less than $160' is a job objective and needs to be green before you can place the PC into the delivery area? If that is true then your only option would be to hunt for a cheaper replacement on PC Bay. But this board needs to be equal or better than the GIGABYTE GA-B250M-Gaming 5, meaning its full price in the shop has to be higher to avoid the 'inferior' error message.

Have you tried it yet to install the exact 1:1 replacement that costs $170?

One possible solution is to keep the pc, and wait till you can get a similar or better MB from PCBay or for free from an upgrade job... second hand price will allow you to go under $160

I have yeah, it is a 'Hard objective' so it needs to be green for it to be handed back to the person that owns it so I guess I just need to wait for a second hand part

So this is the job you spoke of. You are actually ahead of me in story mode.

This all depends on what Motherboard you installed on the first story job.

You were unlucky to install the Gaming 5 in your build. I happened to install a Moritoni motherboard with Kaybe Lake CPU so I will be fine. I hope you get a good second hand coffee lake motherboard as your CPU will need that to work.

Looks like this is still an issue as I'm stuck on the same job. Time to scour PCBay.
