Can't mix RAM brands?
OK so latest gripe... So client has 8gb DDR4 2133mhz RAM and wants to upgrade to 16. So I get another 8gb DDR4 2133mhz.... but it says can only go with the same brand....what?

Of all the other stuff I seen the game let you do, or hold your hand with... it wants to impose something that isn't even a thing in real life? Brand mixing IRL doesn't matter... only the actual specs to match.... right?

So right on this, but actually you CAN mix specs such as the ram speed IRL. Say you have 8gb DDR4 2133mhz and bought another 8gb DDR4 stick but it is 2666mhz. Your pc will still run, only at the slowest speed ( 2133 ). This of course is not recommended, always best to buy matching sticks.
Edit: At least you are getting your monies worth finding the flaws of the game :)
glad you are still giving it a go even with your points of not IRL flaws lol.

'Same brand' my 4ss... Same brand, same model, same frequency, same size, same price -- just one stick is red and other is white. Guess what? They don't want to go together. Seems like an american colonization pun.

Just because you "Can do it" does *NOT* mean you "Should do it" there is a big difference. This game is attempting to teach "Best Practices". Even in real life when building a computer for someone (or even if their machine comes in to a repair shop to be repaired) all good and reputable repair shops will always match all ram sticks 100% exactly on repairs and on new computer builds in real life for compatibility. Therefore the game also reflects this and forces us to match ram sticks in-game. It's not just the speeds. There's a lot more to ram than speeds.

In your example above: Yes the PC would run at 2133 Mhz but what if the 8GB DDR4 2133 stick operates at 16-16-16-18 timings for 2133 mhz and that second 2666 mhz stick you added wants to run at 18-19-19-20 timings for 2133 Mhz. It might work for a short while but then crash later. There's a lot more to computer ram than just the Mhz speed. And that's only the 4 "basic timings". Every ram stick has about 20-30 other sub-timings that is unique to that specific ram stick and they all would have to match for stability. The probability of getting two ram sticks from different manufacturers at different speeds to match on all of their timings is impossible.

I know that at home you could mix`n`match ram in a computer. But doing so could introduce stability issues, blue screens, crashes, etc. Just because it "Appears to work for now" does not mean that it won't crash a few months down the line. Mixing and matching ram in real life is terrible and should never be done.

In game all ram must 100% exactly match. Same capacity. Same manufacturer. Same model. Same speed.

Yes, you are right, and I should have gone into more detail of WHY I said it is " Not Recommended " instead of leaving it at that.
