Basically, if the customer does not have a modular PSU you cant complete these requests fully.
What you can do is exchanging their PSU for a modular one that gives you full cable color control BUT of course that counts against your available budget for the job.
Lol, yes, and if you go over budget you get a 1 star L to your forehead. Oh well, guess I'll have to suffer the fact that I will never reach 5 star average review XD
Personally, I just reject every job that requires colored cables now, you don't lose stars for doing that (you could also look at the PC specs to figure out if the PSU is modular before accepting)
That's just it, isn't it? I've tried removing every single cable in the computer and applying the colors the costumer wanted, basically stripping down the entire computer just to make sure I don't miss any of them. Still, no dice. But sometimes it does work like you say, and some times it doesn't, and I have no idea what is different between the times. So here on out, I'll just make sure the costumer has modular stuff before accepting color jobs.
This doesn't work anymore. It did the trick pre-1.0 but now you will lose a star. If a customer asks for a certain colour, it includes those connected to the PSU.
I started a new game after the release of PCBS 1.0 and have somehow managed to reach level 7 by accepting, completing and receiving five stars for every single job offered. I only rejected one job that appeared to be a scam - $0 budget and $0 pay.
So far I've been able to replace every non-modular power supply in a color cable job with the EVGA 450 watt modular power supply, and to meet every budget with some combination of CPU, GPU and RAM. I always turn on XMP in the BIOS to get whatever RAM overclock is available. Sometimes I've added a second stick of matching RAM (two-way paging?) for a small benchmark increase.
I'm not so certain my method will always work going forward but so far so good.
Now to answer this once and for all when someone in the future will open this thread: It does not matter whether the customer has a modular or non-modular PSU. If this PSU is non-modular there will remain some ugly black cables, but the customer _does not care_ about those. At least they are not ketchup-mustard.
At the minimum you will find one cable from a case fan, HDD or SATA-SSD that can be replaced. You need to find all these replaceable cables. Case solved.
Please note: Even if you replace the PSU with a fully modular one, there will most likely remain one black cable if you have an air cooler, The cable connecting the fan will remain black no matter what.
Post scriptum: If the task does not change from orange to green or you receive a not fully (5 star) positive Bongle review you have missed one of the replaceable cables. Just make sure you rip every cable out of the case. In some beQuiet! cases there is a really short cable connecting the power supply to the outside - also in some of the mini-ITX cases, too, but those are more obvious.
