Stuck with no way to add a cooler to a CPU upgrade
I've been playing the game for months through family share (wife bought it on her account years ago now and has no interest so it sort of became "my game").

I just started a new career and after a few hours when I got to the point where CPU upgrades are becoming normal, I do the upgrade, but they won't let my slap any of my used CPU coolers on any of them.

I do the upgrade and then try to reuse the cooler that came off the build and it lets me pick it from the install menu but then does nothing when I left-click to apply the cooler to the build, so I can't install any of them to the new builds.

Kind of stuck at this point since I can't reuse any of the 4 functional used coolers that I have to apply to the Ryzen 1500X upgrades that everybody wants at this point in the career.

I know this might seem obvious but it does happen.. did you remember to install thermal paste?

I forgot about that. That could be it too. I forgot the game won't let us install a heatsink if the CPU isn't locked down first.

This was the problem. The AMD locking bar was up. I felt like I moused all over everything and it was because the bar is pointed at us on the z axis and has a tiny profile/hitbox that I didn't see it. Having finished off a 6 pack of IPA and being in the middle of a 2nd definitely didn't help either.

Thanks everyone.

I wont laugh here because you played before and am just coming back ... trust me I forget that cpu lock more than anything sorry it was a major hinderance for you (no exclamation point here) ... there always seem to some frustrating things in some games; here they added touches of realism and I do like this alot ! (Exclamation point here now !). I didnt play this when it came out; forgot about it. Glad your! problem is solved !

I had this happen too and it was frustrating, but the flagged fix here resolved the problem. I guess the game simulates frustration of forgetting things like this too. :)

reminds me. Once I upgraded one PC and wanted to give it free goodies (case coolers, better CPU cooler), tried to match visuals and reapplied few coolers. then turned the order in and got 1 star review :) I forgot to apply thermal paste after so many readjustments :)
