R9 280 to 960 not a good enough upgrade?
its the best i could get under the clients budget.... im so confused

was asking for an upgrade... i think, i got rid of the job... but i think i put the wrong gpu in another one, explains why someone complain about the 970 price when they wanted a 2g card or whatever

That's because neither card is faster than the other. They're literally exactly the same performance.

in the game, you can buy a program that is called [ PART RANKING ]

In those "upgrades" jobs, which don't require a certain 3DMark score, choose and then buy simply a part that is ranked higher in this program.

Top section is are the GPU, but if it's about CPU, make sure to scroll down, they are down there.

You can also determine upgrades based just on price. Figure out what their installed card costs new and then install one that costs more than that.
