All the drives!
Am I the only one who feels compelled to make a system that can actually use this many drives simultaniously within the game?

As far as I am aware, there currently are not enough SATA ports, either on the avalible motherboards (which could be fixed with a raid card) or through various methods with PSU power splitters, or a secondary PSU.

Any of the X299 and X399 motherboards should be able to do it. I've done it before.

I just checked each of them:

ASUS ROG Strix X399-E: 6x SATA ports
GIGABYTE X399 DESIGNARE EX: 8x SATA ports, only 6 are functional
GIGABYTE X399 AORUS Gaming 7: 8x SATA ports, only 6 are functional
MSI X399 Gaming Pro Carbon AC: 6x SATA ports
ASUS ROG Rampage VI Extreme: 6x SATA ports, U.2 port not functional
ASUS TUF X299 MARK 1: 8x SATA ports, only 6 are functional
ASUS ROG Rampage VI Apex: 6x SATA ports
ASUS PRIME X299-Deluxe: 6x SATA ports, U.2 port not functional

If you look closely, there are twelve drives installed in that case, four 2.5" SSDs and eight 3.5" HDDs. At this time I don't see how to have more than six drives connected simultaniously within the confines of the game.

Are you referring to the actual specs off the websites in real life, or in-game specs? Did you actually try and connect all of the devices and see if the game lets you connect all of them? It was a long time ago when I did a build like that "connect everything" several months ago and I remember it all worked fine. I just connected the drives and they went and all of them showed up in system info in OmegaOS. Unless they changed something in PCBS between a few months ago and now that wasn't in any of the patch notes that prevents us from doing this today. It's possible.. I haven't tried this build in a long time.

I simply see no more than 6 SATA ports highlighted when I go to connect the data cables. It should also be noted that I've never seen more than 7 SATA power ports highlighted with the provided power supplies.

And, slightly off topic, the simulation currently has 6-pin GPU power plugging into the same ports as SATA power, instead of doing the usual not using 2 pins and still pulling from the 8-pin ports.

I honestly never even looked at the motherboard or even cared about the motherboard. That's kind of irrelevant. I just put the drives in and looked at the hard drive/ssd and just clicked the connect on the end of the hard drive and/or SSD and I never paid attention where on the motherboard it was connecting to on the other side. As long as it connected I never cared. And the last time I tried, they all connected. Doesn't matter if the motherboard only has 7 ports, all the drives/ssd's all connected anyway. PCBS Magic? But it did work. Just try it and see if they connect. I'll try myself here in a little bit I suppose.

There are a few issues like this I hope will be addressed over time. Power supplies are a pretty big offender, cosmetic-wise cables often dont match up, but also as you've mentioned sometimes they use the wrong ports. I think most players are also interested in some sorts of expansion boards, RAID configurations, etc... So here's to hoping.

IF all of the appropreate slots are taken up on the motherboard or PSU, the associated ports on the drives or video cards when trying to run cables will be hilighted in red, signifying that there are no availible ports in which to make the connection.

Here's another screen shot from the same build, with the GIGABYTE X399 AORUS Gaming 7, EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 T2, 80+ TITANIUM, and two GeForce GTX 1080 Ti with EKWB EK-FC Plexi RGB Blocks installed. Note the red highlighted connectors as I mentioned, the two showing through the left vertically mounted seagate drive are for the six-pin ports on the video cards.

Two of the biggest issues with PSUs I see that feed into the inability to support more drives are:

*6-pin GPU plugs are currently using plugs meant for SATA power, when the voltage/amperage isn't the same and the physical plugs are shaped different.

*With every modular PSU I have worked with within the past 10 years, each 6-pin SATA power port can be connected to up to four drives simultaniously via splitters that come as part of the wiring included with the PSU.

Well you're right, it's as I suspected. They changed the game and we can't connect all the drives anymore. We could before.. can't now. It's not a bug, they just changed how the game works. So.. for now, it's not possible. Maybe they'll revert this in the future.

And we don't need so much drives because we don't build fileservers (probably with RAID...) in the game. One or two SSDs (depends on how much games you want to run on SSD, doesn't matter in the game) are mostly enough and one HDD as general storage (videos, music...).

Then why do HEDT motherboards have 10 sata ports?

Are HEDT board focussed on home use and gaming? You can give the answer to yourself.
And you know the target group in the game because you remind often other people about that.

(But focussing on more than gaming or unrealistic "get xxxx 3Dcraps" jobs is welcome)

Granted I may end up using mine as part of a job, but the comp I am typing this from was designed to accomodate a massive ammount of drives specifically for media files. Movies, music, pictures and games can all take up lots of space. Some of us like to put it all in once place without having to store things separately.

As it is, once my current build irl is in it's final phase, I will be making use of 15 SATA devices:
8x 3.5" HHDs
6x 2.5" HHDs
1x BDR (Blueray Disc Recorder)

Edit: the 8x 3.5" drives will be on some kind of expansion card that may or may not include a RAID controller.

What does any of this even have to do with the PCBS game or connecting all of the hard drives inside PCBS game?

I was giving a real world example of such a computer, theoretically, with the correct components I could build a similar setup using the EVGA DG-87 within the game. I personally find the idea of recreating my actual computer within the game appealing, and I am pretty sure it qualifies for the title of HEDT (High End Desk Top).....as does pretty much any comp you could create within the game using an i7 (or better) processor and two 1080 Ti's.
