Being asked to use parts I haven't unlocked?
I've now got two jobs asking for an i7-8700k CPU. I'm level 14 and don't unlock these until like level 15, so I'm kinda confused on what to do since one of the jobs is to do it in two days which I guess I'll just accept my fate on.

I also had this problem with waiting for a GTX 1080 to be unlocked, so I'm curious if you guys have had these problems too?

Yea there are two things you can do for these jobs.

1. Wait until said item is unlocked and install it.

2. Look up the cpu and/or/ gpu heirarchy and pick a item that is better that what they are asking.

There are part lists and other such guides available in the community guides tab as well as in Free Build mode.

Yeesh. That's pretty unfortunate considering the CPU I need is better than all the CPUs I have now, and that I won't be able to level up before the job ends. Even worse is that it's part of those special jobs with actual character personalities. Oh well - Early Access is Early Access.

Thanks for the information!

Stuck waiting to unlock 1080 TIs and Intel 8000 series chips.

Had the same with a 1080. I just kept that PC in the back until I could finish the job.

Well, if it's asking for a 1080TI, just slap in two 1080s in SLI and call it a day. The game's logic is still somewhat klunky that SLI/CFX performance scales linearly and works on every single thing you throw at it (certainly not the case in real life), so going SLI on two 1080s is accepted as a substitute by the game. As for Coffee Lake i7-8700k, try slapping in a Ryzen 7 1800X, which the game consider Coffee Lake's equal for some reason.

To be fair tho, you will spend more on the upgrade than just rejecting/quitting the task, but if you do have the parts lying around or have the cash to burn it won't hurt to just have some fun.

I was considering throwing a Ryzen 7 1800X in, but I checked online and saw that the i7-8700k was considerably better than it so I just didn't try it. I'll give it a shot next time, though, if it ever happens again.

The only reason I do these jobs anyway is for the 'story' aspect of them rather than the money. I doubt I'll ever see that special job again because I quit it, but at least there's a bunch more to experience.

Thanks for the comment!

You might see it again. I swear I have seen the same emails pop up as if they are in rotation. Just the other night I had a job where the guy needed a repair because his brother kicked the PC. Finished the job and a couple finished jobs later, I got the same one. Checked my recording and it was the same email and job word for word.

Yah that has happened to me. If it was a repair or a new build and there is no time limit on when you need to finish it you can do 2 things. One you can just quit the job in the email or two you can just leave the PC out in the hall and wait for the part to become available but if you do that you will only be able to receive two jobs at the same time.

Not only has this happened to me, while I was waiting for the part to unlock, a customer PC came in with this same part already installed. So: for artificial reasons the "PC Expert" was not able to purchase this part, but a customer without a clue already had one. It's a game-ism.

Ah, yeah. Most jobs are actually like that, but then you'll get the exceptions which are the ones with unique personalities like what I was talking about. Emails are also sometimes repeated too!
