Cannot upgrade PSU
So I'm kinda strapped for cash and I got this task that requires me to upgrade a rig to have a 3DMark score of 5400 or higher. I strapped in two R9 390s that I happen to have lying around, but then when I try to upgrade the PSU, the game wouldn't let me. The customer's PC comes with a 400w PSU which is insufficient as it causes BSODs. I bought a 600w PSU and it wouldn't let me install the new PSU.

Why is the game constraining me like that? The customer wants more a higher rating. I can give them a higher rating by crossfiring, but the PSU is holding the build back.

Now I have to start over, because I am at $-400 and if I fail this, there is no way I'm going to make it past the next utility bill and rent.

That's because you don't need to upgrade the PSU in this game. Right now a 250W shean or what ever base power supply can power any dual-gpu configuration in the game. It's not the power supply that is constraining you. It would be in this situation in real life but in the game the problem is just airflow in the case. You need higher flow rate fans and more of them. The only reason dual-gpu configurations can bluescreen in the game right now is cooling. That's literally the only check point for dual-gpu setups. So, you can't upgrade the PSU because you're not supposed to upgrade it.

Thanks for the heads up. Although, I have been building multi-GPU rigs since 2005 and all these times I learnt from trial and error that an insufficient PSU will be the bane of your existence (says the guy who got frequent BSODs from powering a twin 7800GT build with an Antec 480w and later Enermax 620w, and eventually learnt the hard way that SLI and CFX should not be attempted on PSUs with an output of less than 750w).

Yes. In real life, it would be the power supply constraining the dual-gpu setups.

What I tried to explain to you is, right now, that is -NOT- how it works inside this simulator game, PCBS.

Right now it's only cooling that effects dual-gpu setups, nothing else.

Actually this isn't quite true. Until yesterday there was a bug where PSU wattage wasn't being calculated correctly but now this is fixed it is more likely a PC will BSOD if the PSU isn't strong enough.

The not being able to swap the PSU sounds more like a bug though, would you be able to send us the save game with this job in? You can send it to support@theirregularcorp.com

Thanks.
Yeah.. oops. I didn't see power supply wattage in the patch notes when I posted earlier. It does effect it now.

Well, I already restarted. The quest in question tho is one that is asking for a 3DMark score of around 5400 or higher. At that point I'm only at level 8 and don't even have access to Kaby Lake Core-I CPUs or GPUs more powerful than the RX 570 and GF1060 yet. I've already been achieving insane scores through the use of CFX at that point. The quest is one of those where the parts you took out of the computer are tagged with a sticky note of the owner's name in the inventory. I think you should not be completely prevented from upgrading the PSU dispite the fact.

Nonetheless I will file a report and send the save if I encounter that quest again.
