SSDs (or flash memory in general) loses their informations (charged voltage in the cells) over time (see the problems with the Samsung SSD 840 non-Pros), especially TLC and newer QLC memory with smaller structures. Optical media can be kept for many years in the shelf, flash memory has to be "recharged" from time to time. A modern USB flash drive would have defective files after some years in the shelf.
I belong to the people who can be careful to things, even 25 year old CDs looks like new.
And if I'm not carefully, then it's MY fault. If 3rd parties (especially online DRM services) are involved, then the risk of losing the product is much higher.
And after a nuclear war (if Trump goes weirder than he already is), which destroys my data at home and the (offline) backup stored at relatives in other city, then I've other problems than getting my games back.
I'm sorry but this is just the dumbest argument I've ever read.. oh man, thanks for the laughs this morning.
The R4 is an ancient case and old old old. I don't think anyone actively even has it for sale anymore. Everyone sells the R6 today, some places still have a few R5's left.
We can get Chieftec cases for few € more but much higher quality and thicker steel (and no window which would break every EMC test).
They should move forward as new stuff is released to keep up with the latest stuff of course, but i want older stuff as well, i mean they haven't even added any real Motherboards for 7th gen Intel CPUs, only those 3 placeholders, Where is my Asus Maximus IX? Where is my EVGA 1080 FTW? Where is my G.Skill Trident Z RGB Ram? Where is my Corsair 750D case?
Do i even need to ask for my Soundcard or Front Panel Fan Controller that i kept around for years?
The only thing from my current build that is in the game is the CPU (1 1/2 year old 7700K) and i guess the NZXT Kraken X62 is here as well (but missing the infinity mirror effect).
People want to be able to re-build their own PCs in this game as well. Just having the latest and greatest stuff isn't going to accomplish that.
Not to mention i want to play Carreer mode and sometimes go WT FFFF is that thing? when a weird PC arrives and old computers are really good for that.
I want Retro builds with old 3Dfx cards and Creative EAX Soundcards as well, there is so much that can be added to this game beyond current year RGB Tampered Glass builds.
Sorry, this isn't 1995 anymore. Games do not ship on disc any more. You can't buy games on physical optical discs even in the stores anymore. They only give you a code to use to download it on their online delivery platform instead. Steam or whatever the other companies use. Optical discs are gone. There's not much to discuss any more about this, we've said it all in this thread by now.
And if you want the game for future, you must go into "grey zone" and have to download twice: Your bought game on Steam (or whatever) which you use and the "patched backups" from OCH-linksites / torrentsites you put on the NAS as reserve.
I've got USB's as physical media as well to back up whatever i need along with external hard drives.
Going into the "grey zone" to use software I've paid for if i should every require it doesnt bother me in the slightest and there is always GOG if you do not like steam and other digitial providers. HDD/SSD mass sotrage is the new physical media whether you accept it or not you can go the way of VHS if you like fact is mass storage is the new sucessor to Discs as DRM can still lock you out of disc content and Disc's cannot contain all the required data for modern gaming (Does not mean every game ever before you say).
I'm going to end this necro here on my part at least, you can wallow in your physical media grave for all I care, I'm moving on to the future with my eyes open :)
AMEN!
Here, I think you lost your tin foil hat, it fell off on the floor, you can have it back. Steam's been here and is a staple of computer gaming since nearly 2004'ish, I forget exactly when. Steam's not going away, it's the biggest platform in the world for gaming with literally billions of users globally.
Physical install media went the way of the dodo years ago. Most new computer cases don't even have 5.25" bays anymore.
Is it safe to say that about 20-30% of cases available on the market don't have the drive bays and it's still common to have them? Even if you don't use them, I still think the game could have jobs where people ask for fixes to their DVD/Blu Ray drives or adding in media expansion modules (USB's, SSD cards slots, etc). Otherwise we'll have some (not all) cases with something that just sits there or is taken out because there's no functionality to go with it.
Obviously the player won't need these bays for productivity in the game but it certainly adds one more bit of variety to the job pool from customers.
As for personal use, the computer I built this year has an optical drive in it. Not because I plan on many installs from physical media but more for watching DVD's on one monitor while doing artwork on the other. Might upgrade it to a Blu Ray drive and one of the bays beneath it could be at some point populated with a media card reader module. There's still some use in the bays for now depending on a person's choice and style.
Honestly a lot of your posts make you sound like a 14 year old trying to sound cool....
