Am I missing somthing?
Loving this game, I'm just wondering am I missing something in terms of pricing of components and how much I get paid for jobs?
Currently doing the job where I need to get a PC to benchmark a score of 4552.
The current specs are as follows:
GPU: DFL Raedeon R9 290 GR8
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700

Currently the only CPU I have unlocked that is better is the i7-6700K, so I'm figuring uprading the gpu is all I need to do, however the next best GPU according to the Part Ranking program is a DFL Raedeon R9 290 GR8TOR, which costs $325. The job only pays $315, putting me at a $10 loss.

Or, from PCBay I can get a Shean GeForce GTX 980 GAMER XL for $311, making $4 profit. This seems pretty low, so I'm just wondering if I'm missing something?

Or are some jobs beind low profit/loss just part of the game, and I should be looking more into this before deciding wether or not to accept a job? (Currently I've been accepting all jobs.)

It is exactly that. You don't need to accept every job you get. Some of them, and you have noticed it, aren't worth it.
You have to be precise and figure out with some math exactly which gpu to buy for these deals for them to be profitable, and even then the margin isn't great like $45 - $75 profit per job, but 3dmark jobs are worth it because they provide the highest experience points for leveling.

To figure out which GPU to use see here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/621060/discussions/0/1696043806571947313/

If you do it right you can earn a profit and usually get so precise you end up beating their target 3dmark score by only 5-20 points.

Also, remember that you get to keep the old parts too so the profit is much higher. I dont remember exactly, but i think that r9 280 costs around $300 bucks. And you can upgrade someone elses pc with it without having to buy a new gpu.

I actually never sell ANY pc parts because everything can be reused. It actually feels like cheating sometimes. A guy asks me to replace a broken gtx980ti or some other high end gpu and gives me like ~$600 bucks, but i just throw in an old gtx960 and make $600 bucks profit...

I believe that was the HP Computers business model for many years. :trazz:

Haha, yeh, I have figured out you can reuse old parts. I've also figured out that when you swap a broken part you don't need to match it, as I fixed a broken 500gb hdd with someone elses used 120gb hdd. Next level scamming.

But thanks guys, I'll take a closer look at jobs and work at becoming more efficiant.

Yeah, this is how you can really make a lot of money in the middle part of the game. Start buying the low end parts from PCBay to stock up. Then when you do get the "replace my broken part" missions, you HEAVILY profit. Just keep stocking up.

That's sort of pointless logic. Why would you buy cheap parts before a job? You may over buy and waste money. It's a much smarter way to spend money to wait and get the job, know what it wants and then buy it.
