Can you check what you have on hand without being at a computer that your working on ?

you should see the amount also on the shop that would be very helpful

This would be very very very helpful yes... When you advance in the game you have a little 'stock' of parts but i need to have a system on the bench, Edit this system and only then I can check what i have in stock.
It would be great to see my own stock on my pc or as Blade says... In the store...

Simply press i when you are not working on any PC gives you the overall inventory.

You can check your full Inventory when not in build mode with the 'i' key.
