Upgrade 970
Guy gave me $205 and told me to upgrade his MSI GTX 970. I have no clue about AMD cards so I thought I would buy him a 1050Ti. Is this ok?

Yeah it will be OK. As long as it's better then his old card. Which it is.

GTX 970 > GTX 1050 ti
You're going to need to consult the Part Ranking App in game but 1050ti is not the way to go. You need something like the GTX980 or GTX1070 or Vega 56

You can relate somethings in the game to real life and just as an example from 1 quick google search :

You can see the GTX970 is much better than the 1050ti other than the fact the 970 is older
