Extra work benches?
Being new to the game I'm progressing quite slow, I've only just reached level 10 and still use the one workbench and don't even have the storage cupboard.

I was wondering what do you use the 2 other workbenches for in the room, I assumed installing OS etc would take a while, but it's seconds and then I install 3-4 programs and reboot. At the moment the only time consuming thing is the benchmark, but if I turn my back to then work on a 2nd bench while that is running, I'll forget about it.

So I'm looking for reasons as to why you have a 2nd or even a 3rd bench, what do you do with these - does it take longer later on in levels?

Usually for running 3 PC benchmarks at a time for customers, build one machine, run benchmark, assemble the other PC whilst it is running and set that benchmark off, tweak first one if required and move onto the 3rd.

This is especially helpful when overclocking is required.

Also, assembling PC's from spare used parts from past builds or bought parts/PC's from PCBay occupy a bench whilst waiting to be sold, so you can have assembled 2 PC's from used parts, bench marked them and await for a sale whilst still having a workbench spare for repairing/building new jobs from emails.

Ahh makes sense, I'm just getting into the PCBay side of things and bought a couple "broken" PCs which should turn up in a couple of days. I assumed I could fix these and then sell them on PCBay, but leave them in the corridor or the storage cupboard (when bought). As for benchmarking - it only takes about 90 seconds to run (I read it used to be 5 minutes in EA). I initially thought the OS would take longer to install than it does hence the question really.

I use an M.2 for everything I build so it takes seconds and yes, i remember well having to wait for 3D Mark to finish lol People used to alt tab to get bug it and get it over with lol

But its still handy, I load up all 3 benches or the unoccupied ones with my jobs and start the ones that require benchmarking first, whilst its bench marking I get what I can done on the next one whilst its going, making efficient use of my time.

Of course when you get later on into the game and the market trend app shows that complete PC's are selling well I load all the benches up I can with the best I can build and overclock, leave them up on PCbay and skip work for 5 days lol.

I use the storage to keep all the borken and used PC's / Cases I've bought as each day goes on until I've got a load of them I can do something with or disassemble to use in work I get via the emails.

I've made it to level 25 before [/i](back in early access when that was the max, level 20 before that was the max)[/i] I've just not spent as much time on the game since before V1.0 release. Still easily one of my favourite games :P

Excellent, thanks for the feedback, think I might need to buy a bench then :)

Can you not store the PCs you put on PCBuy for sale in the storage cupboard - or only in the hall & benches?

From what I've seen and tried, they stay on the benches until they are sold, 5 days worth, but its worth noting you want to maximise you're profits so you will be looking to build a PC with certain parts that are trending high and when Complete PC's are also trending high or at least over the 0% mark and not in the negative, its not always possible with all the parts but the majority is.

So you won't be using your benches for this all the time, only when the time is right. It's worth noting that building the PC gives it 1 value, bench marking it will increase this, overclocking and re bench marking will again increase it until the point you've reached maximum overclocking potential and stability. Doing all this and using the market trending app to choose the right time will get you a PC that call sell for $1k plus even with over or mid range parts :)

I wouldn't worry about getting all 3 benches just yet, the storage cupboard is invaluable for me as I'm always checking PC Bay and buying anything that's super cheap, even broken PC's as you often find that the broken part is cheap to replace :)

You're very welcome for any feedback :104:

Actually all my PC's for PCBay that have been OC and then benchmarked are all put back in the cupboard and are sold from in there.

No need to occupy a workbench for them, unless I totally missed a reason ?

Thanks, I'll make a note of it - though I don't have the level yet for the market app. Just gone to level 10 and got my first broken PC delivered, replaced the GPU and put it on the market as is. was a cheap thing to see what happens and a used GPU put in. so about 300$ spent on it in total.
