Keeping track
Getting in towards level 6, I'm getting a ton of incoming jobs and at this point it begins to become more difficult to keep track of which purchased components are for which jobs. is there no way in game to make notes for each job?

Copy paste of mine from that thread

One of the most requested feature, and yet hasn't made it to the game.
Due to how game's playing time longevity usually works for peeps (suggesting you may have already stopped playing the game when finally notes makes it into the game), I have a workaround for you, for at least part of your issue, and ease your time for now.

Always accept mails in the same order (top to bottom or bottom to top) and always order your parts for each PC while you go through the mails. Never come back later to add parts on a previous mail, just be very very organised while ordering parts.

The last part ordered / unmounted will always end up at the bottom of your inventory.
So when you are into next day, start working on the PC's BACKWARD from your accept order, so due to that, all parts you need will be at the bottom of your inventory (and the possible unmounted ones will be tagged as [ used ] )

That never fails me, I'm not taking any note, and yet I never (if done correctly and you are sure every part you ordered will fit the PC you work on) mix parts.

I also usually for most of the non new build, work on the bench close to my own PC, to access it quickly if I need to check infos.

Last workaround, if you feel you still waste too much time back and forth between your own PC and customer's one :
Install the MAIL app on customer's PC, so you have mails on the PC you are working on.

I know all of this are still workarounds, but that's the best ideas I can offer to you right now.

ok thanks for the help. at the very least I think they should add in the ability to put sticky notes on the new parts to assign them to a job. it was a new pc build that most recently screwed me up b/c due to the budget I was planning on using a few used parts, and then when building day came I realized I had forgotten certain used inventory was to be used and I had accidentally sold those parts.the save had been overwritten by then.

I just had another thought. what if you're ordering parts of rmultiple jobs at once? or should I not be doing this specifically so that it'll work the way you say? also with the upgrade jobs that require a certain 3DMax score is there an easy way to know before looking at it what would be required to meet the requested score? From what I can tell the difference between the scores of 2 individual parts doesn't add up to the same difference

For first, I never sell unmounted used parts. I stockpile them and then build used PC's that I overclock to the max I can on each builds, and then sell those full PC's on PCBay.
That's how you make the most money out of those used parts.

Again, I order multiple parts for multiple builds / upgrade / repairs at once. Unless I forgot a part, I never do multiple orders on a day.

Really beeing as organized as possible, thinking and planning all, and ordering ALL the parts for a mail, then only you go to next mail and order parts for that.
You NEVER come back to add parts if you realize you forgot. In that very case, I delete ALL the parts I have added for the next build, and add the missing part on previous build, and then add again all the parts for the next job.

That's honnestly more a concentration thing, a sort of OCD like thing.
I build always like that.
1 I choose the CPU I want
2 I then choose the Mobo that will fit that CPU
3 From the Mobo I chose, I then add the MAX frequency RAM for the chosen Mobo
4 It's time for the CPU cooler, taking mental note of it's height
5 I go for the GPU and check it's lenght
6 Storage devices, and if in doubt of a possible M.2 slot on the Mobo, I go SSD / HDD config
7 Now that I know the CPU and GPU wattage, I go for the PSU, making a mental note of it's length
8 The case that will accomodate all those parts
9 Maybe some case fans if I plan any OC

That's for a full build, it's way easyer for the repair / upgrades.
And yeah, before you ask, I'm able to know / guess the broken parts from mails hints and budget, so I can order all parts the same day I accept the jobs, with a next day $30 delivery.

Now for scores and upgrade scores, there is a great HTML calculator out there

Also, if for multiple builds and upgrades, open a tab for each one on your navigator, and you then have the build combo "notes" as well, if you need some support.

Again, I know it's a workaround, but notes have been requested since forever (early in early access developpement stage) and yet again, haven't made it into the game yet. So that's still your best method without taking notes and wasting that time.

cool thanks again for the help. sucks that the "part ranking" app is kind of useless when you're trying to compare to the actual 3D Mark score.... I wonder if they intended that or if there's supposed to be some other formula to figure out the actual 3D mark score for a given part based on the ranking in that app.

I use my "PCBS Build Sheet" template to keep track of parts-for-PCs. It's in the Steam Guides area for this game. There are other templates too.

i keep a notepad open on my desktop and jot down every single job, what parts to use and what i need to do. a very old school way of doing it but it helps me keep track of the tasks. if you can play the game in windowed mode, maybe you can try the same, just have a small notepad open while playing the game.
