Do you see the issue?
Redout was actually quite an empty game, despite being amazing, but it had a decent load of genuinely tough and rewarding challenges.
This game sorely needs a reason for people to play it after upgrading their ship fully, which took me a few days.
The gameplay and tracks is sick in a lot of ways, but there's no objective to playing it now. I don't feel I got my money's worth. Even though, to be clear, I love the gameplay.
I have a few more suggestions: Change some of the soundtrack as a few tracks are repetitive and flat. There are some amazing tracks, the best being Cryon Terminal. Maybe add the option to customize which tracks play on which courses, and maybe just add in some more tracks.
If this game had a decent campaign mode like redout or wipeout with diverse challenges and rewards that are actually worth getting, I would VERY happily pay for DLC courses/additional championship tracks.
It'd be good to have some sound effects building up to the start of a race to get you pumped up. As it is, a stiff announcer counts down, and then instant boost and music, from silence. Feels a bit unnatural. Perhaps the music for each course could play a bit dynamically, to present race start/finish etc.
I'm not a fan of the way ships whistle so loudly going around tracks. I'd like them to sound like futuristic pod racers. Some mechanical/electronic sound effects e.g. a jet engine + Michael Bay Transformer style. I think the reason people enjoy these kinds of games is because of the immersion, realism, and pumping music. The sound design of this game needs some rebalancing.
Finaly, more ships, obviously. As it is now, some ships are more useful for all-purpose racing than others, so there isn't really a choice once you've upgraded your ships. I would really like to see more ships which look very different, but with similar stats. That way you can make an aesthetic choice without compromising your ability to win.
This game scratches a very specific itch (reminds me most of F-zero), but it has a lot of unfulfilled potential at this point.
Thanks for the update. Keep going!!
This mechanic is central to the gameplay and needs addressing as a PRIORITY, over and above camera angles and 'small bugs'. Though of course we all like bug fixes.
A satisfying, intuitive strafing system with the option to do very sharp turns (perhaps by holding both shoulder buttons by default as in F-zero GX) would be good for tight corners. As it is, there are a lot of tracks in which it's too awkward to get around
In my opinion...
Best tracks: Blue Marble, Cryon Terminal, Drifter's Paradise, Michael's Bay
Dull and/or repetitive: Main Theme (menu) Music, Nexus Wastes, Northern Ring, & Square Creek
You know, I just listened to each track from the OST briefly, and most of them are very good.
I would say the music is fine, apart from the four I mentioned. Changing the menu music would be nice.
But if devs can find time to add a simple feature to TOGGLE which music appears in the courses, and which doesn't. Like Smash Bros.
Not to say i hate it
