I hope it will be about 16-17 century. Very interesting time period.
Would be amazing to have pike and shot. You are right there. Perfect to include Winged Hussars and such as well.

Century XVI – XIX is boring, would end up being more like CoH and MoW than with AL. If AL 2 is not in the Middle Ages, it is better in Antiquity where the armies of the different kingdoms have a much greater variety of armaments and functions than in the sixteenth – nineteenth centuries where the armies are all equal, only changing the name of the unit and the clothing.

The difference between a cossack a winged hussar and a dragon, whether in appearance, or in the function performed, or in weaponry, or in the possible skill in the game, are tiny, there is virtually no difference. The infantry then doesn't even talk, it's really hard to find any difference.

Already in Antiquity we have a great diversity, with each army having a totally different composition, different functions, different armaments, extremely different visuals from each other, different possible skills in the game. The Greek army consisted of hoplites formed in phalanges, armed with shields and very long spears, the Romans had legions armed with scutums, lorica segmentata, gladius and pilum, Egyptians and Hittites had the chariots as the basis of their armies, Carthaginians stood out for their elephants, and so on. Much better than saber-armed cavalry and infantry armed with musket or rifle for everyone.

I love AoE style of having standard units as their basement but also special/unique/diverse/faction orientated features/different units/mechanisms etc.

Having competition now does not make it easier for AL2 to stay alive in the long term. I think they missed their potential chance, in 2018 they were the top riders, this chance was missed. AL2 can be cool, but beeing cool if others are also cool doenst make it easier and gaming industry is agreed/finacial party, if no money comes in no support etc. = bad game little game circle short dead of the project.

I love Microsoft having good budged and stable release roadmap for their game, it made me pay AoE4 for a huge price which supports their ideas/plan for the game.

The problem is that this only works in AOE due to the large number of Civs. Players think, civs are not that unique (units alike), but at least we have lots of civs. Not here, civs are not so unique (following this same model) and there are not many civs. To make matters worse, they trick players into saying that this game is an RTS, when in fact it is an RTT.
