If you search for a game mainly for multiplayer, this is really not the game for you.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the game and the idea behind it, but online games are really uncommon if you don't want to wait a long time or don't have any discord/steam friend connections to privatly invite.
I wish it was more active , i wanted more than a single player, maybe if they manage to revitalize multiplayer i'll buy it
They recently gave away the multiplayer components for free, that's were you'll likely find more players as they're trying to get more players onboard.
They sold this action as a "fan demand" (Ive not seen any single thread about this here on steam).
To boost up playernumbers with f2p was a huge playerdemand, yes.
One last effort to revive the game.
The way how they structured the game however, led them to just renaming and opening the already back then f2p open beta client for general multiplayer.
That's the "Peasant Edition".
It seems completely dead rn anyway.
If you see real wishes for this game (based on social media comments and threads from the last months/years Ive seen), ppl want:
- More factions/content
- More basic features (like saving a game "feature", camera rotation, options, general fixes and polish work)
- other...
This game is dead because devs ignored their application for the last 2 (+?) years. They didnt hit the nail which customer did show them very cleary.
Yes it was a huge playerdemand...
We talked about it after every single tournament and every active player basically beged for the devs to try to get the multiplayer going again by doing some f2p stuff.
The reality of the situation is that the devteam that initially worked on the game is not really there anymore, so they basically took an already f2p client from beta stages and just re-released it.
The other possibility would've been to restructure the original game client by adding some kind of "ingame items/dlcs" and reroute how campaigns get unlocked, with the obvious pro that everything is in one client/server then.
More factions won't add any depth to the game but make it an utter mess (it already kinda is with saracens beeing hugely out of line with some of their mechanics and germans beeing hardly playable at all).
Yes it would add some short term breath to the game if ppl want to check it out, but mostly it wasn't a demand by players who are/were long term active in the community.
Camera rotation would've been nice, but lets be real...
Nobody left or leaves an entire game, its' story/immersion and gameplay cause of a lack of camera rotation.
The only "general fix" I can think of is readjusting retreat positions so you can always replenish units after full retreat, which was quite the problem a while ago.
But even then, Community managers motivated players to write lists/report the certain maps/factions/spots where it happens so they can fix it.
The devs didn't ignore anything at all.
They listened to tons of playerfeedback with theheroes / mod support / balance / out of game lobby chat / tournaments and their rules / map design / f2p client.
It's just that the game always was quite barebones compared to other RTSs and they didn't want to compromise on their simplistic approach vision, which is quite understandable.
Yes it was a huge playerdemand... <--- If there is no thread in this steam forum, no ask on social medias that include this "demand", I do not call it "huge". If remaining fanboys in niche MP ask for this game to become free, this is not attracting any others who has different wishes for this game as Ive listed...so no it wasnt any huge playerdemand as I see it.
- More factions CAN make a game more deep (if implemented correctly. C&C bombermens like saracens however dont, but that was not asked for in the social media threads and in all the steam threads...=
- Long term fanboys wishes are good, but they dont help to bring this game to a more huge mass happyness which was the only way to make this game alive...
- @Camera rotation: Search for it in the steam forum, there has been much anger from ppl asking why this basic thign wasnt ingame, so yes it make ppl leave (or frustrate)
- General fixes: I have so many and seen many here suggested as well. All well ignored. Ive not seen any community manager here, tell me where to find them (dont name their dead fanboy discord or niche MP parties as source pls)
- "The devs didn't ignore anything at all." Oh yes they did very well. Or simply talk around the topic without any solution or making sense.
- To the last text: Maybe devs made a lot for this game at its release, but it wasnt enough if I see whats left to make this game fun or long time motivating for more then just the niche fanboy-area which is left. This game feels more like a devs friends project then a serious world-wide available project with the wish to be played and enjoyed in a bigger scale. Its to basic and was left dead like this sadly.
I frankly don't care about what you think of me or the discords.
It's easy to just write of anything that goes against your perception as "fanboyism".
I just stated, that the majority of what you said is just not true.
They listened to playerfeedback and tried to interact with the community.
The orginal devs seemed to quit the game way too soon and they didn't want to compromise on their vision, what game they want to create, when it comes to the barebones simplicity mechanic underlying the gameflow.
Those seemed to be the issues.
What you are doing right now is taking minor things, blowing them insanely out of proportion and start to sht on ppl and rant about the game, which isn't showing anyone else but you beeing quite out of touch.
