Ancestors Legacy
base building
most threads concerning this are too old and explain little, so since I don't feel like investing time on trying the beta: how's base building in a few words?

1-restricted, more like relic (CoH, DoW) titles, with very few buildings with limited construction options etc
2-classic RTS base building: more like Cossacks and Age of Empires (you can build anywhere and how much you want, with only few limitations

I've seen a few short videos, they all showed fighting scenes and no resource gathering of any sort.

I despise the first group extensively and I think they washed out the whole point of "strategy" in building and economy management, so frenetic relic "RTSs" aren't for me. I fear Ancestors belong to the 1st group?

No its not game for you it seems. Base building and resources gathering is very streamlined. You just pick which building do you want to build and it builds itself on the predefined spot just like in BTFE 1, didnt play second one. But why dont you try the game for free its not that big of a download.

I only played the second, do you refer to it or the first? (although I suppose there was little difference between the 2)

Its exactly same as The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth if your remember that RTS.

I do but I played the second of that small saga as well. The second was really good, the buildings were several and each trained different units. If I recall correctly you could place them also far away from the main base, is it the same here?

then the question is how many resource types are there and does each resource have a building which produces resources automatically (so no villagers for gathering)?

thanks for your replies

Because I see it is multiplayer and I prefer singleplayer matches, better to understand how the mechanics function; and also because it takes less time ti post a couple of comments than downloading and playing a game.

It seems you satisfied me with your answers. I'm very much into economy and base building, using defensive structures to suppress enemy forces, making great walls and castles etc. Ancestors doesn't seem to be the game for me in this regard. You see, even BFTME 2 had defensive towers with several upgrades, walls, and some kind of fortress building if i recall correctly.

Now, this is bad news, I expected at least more focused control over base building and economy driven game since there is ''RTS'' tag already has been put...

This game is cool but it defenitly needs free base building!
So you can build a little outpost to flank enemies or to fortress some villages...

It also would be great to build walls. So you can defend with more tactics

I know right, but we have to be suspicious about the use of the term. It's been so misused in the last years - "strategy" has a meaning in RTS and developers only think it refers to battle tactics and not economy management.
The fact relic even believes his CoH or DoW really possess a proper economic system (no trading, no markets, little to no gathering rate technologies, etc). lmao, so sad

From what I saw, this is a tactical rts which has limited predetermined base building quite similar to medieval kingdom wars or stronghold series.

Basically you build bases on predetermined locations/control points on the map.

I see that thanks, but from what I understand also the economy is pretty much limited to a streamlight management (whereas in stronghold it's very complex)

There is no real basebuilding, every building is always put into the same place.
