Controller support?
I don't know what kind of framework the game's running on, but is adding controller support at all realistic?

If not, there's always JoyToKey, but it would be neat.

I used Controller Companion, but I heard one could simply use Big Picture Mode in Steam with the non-admin version of the game.

I can confirm the Big Picture thing works. Thanks for the tip!

(If you've never done it before, you need to go to Big Picture settings and tick the boxes to make Steam treat your gamepad as a Steam controller. Then when you launch a game, select the basic WASD profile and it works perfectly.)

To be perfectly honest, the reason there currently isn't controller support is because I haven't owned a controller since the Sega Mega Drive, and that makes testing a bit tricky. It's also something that genuinely slips my mind, because I actually forget that people use controllers on PC. I know, weird.

Anyway, it is something I'm looking into, although I can't promise I can make it work. So I'm really glad that alternatives exist.

I do appreciate and understand that some people prefer using controllers - and as noted above, that does work. (And I was told it would work beforehand by a number of people. It's just not something I'm that familiar with.)

The game was certainly designed and tested to be easily used with the keyboard as well, though. It's a fairly relaxed game, and less about precision than some platformers, so it's not hard to play with the keyboard - much like some of the early freeware/Flash platformers that were part of its inspiration.

I've tried using the Big Picture mode suggested above (and even remapped the D-pad keys to WASD manually) but once I hit the menu it stops registering controller inputs.

I have the same issue using Joy2Key. Am I missing something really obvious? I love the idea of this game, but wrist injuries mean I can't use a keyboard for extended periods of time any more.

Someone above mentioned that you have to use the "noadmin" version with Big Picture? (It's an alternate branch of the game that doesn't require admin rights, although that can throw up issues with saving on a small number of PCs.)

And yeah, really need to look into this some more. Apologies; it's genuinely an aspect of games I'm incredibly unfamiliar with.

Ah, I missed that part, good spot!

Don't be so hard on yourself, the game is really fun from what I got through before I started faffing around with controllers. Will get it working this weekend :D

so glad I found this thread! I had to map keys to my controller using joy2key and even then it only worked by changing to the "noadmin" version
