Playing Warlock doesn't feel as good as in Heroes of Hammerwatch
I feel like playing the Warlock just doesn't feel as satisfying or viable as on the first Heroes of Hammerwatch.
In the first game the Warlock permanently siphoned health and mana from the enemies through his primary attack and that attack even chained to other enemies.

Now in HoH2 the first attack only creates stacks (10 at the moment for me) with each stack increasing the total amount of mana and health - but there is no good health or mana stealing for me at the moment except when I get a temporary skill inside the dungeon.

Will he become as powerful as the warlock from HoH later in the game? At the moment at level 8 he still feels quite weak / fragile to me.

The key is to not get a temporary skill inside the dungeon and instead take it with you when you embark.

Warlock is pretty decent. Wildly different from HoH1 with the skills, that's for sure. But you can build him as a minion mancer or a melee fighter and it's actually not bad. Survivability in NG0 with a fast attacking melee weapon like the dirk and decent life steal is up there with the Paladin.
Actually probably better since you don't have to use a skill and instead just poke to heal.

And I heard a decent minion build has massive DPS capability.

Just get the 'Lock to level 10 and have a gander at what the subclasses give you before issuing the verdict. The possibilities of a class really start opening up then.

Thanks, I'll level him some more and see if I can get him to work for me.
He just feels sooooo different from my warlock in HoH1.

Some of the temporary skills I got in the dungeon I still can't unlock at the start of a run.
Do I need to upgrade the magic shop to get them? Or how do I actually unlock them?

Upgrades to the town will do the trick. Keep in mind, that you can only take one skill upgrade with you on a run, though.
it felt like ♥♥♥♥ to me when I just picked up lock in this game but having played it for a bit I feel like it'll be more viable in pushing ng+ than lock was in HoH1. It's sorta the opposite deal here where lock was amazing early on but fell off due to poor dps output. HoH2 lock has some bugged stuff and they're very perk reliant but they should work better in higher ng runs because their damage doesnt suck now lol
