if you are in combo mode you have a purple bubble around you and you hear a soundloop.
if you continue killing it extends the time.
you run faster you regen faster and i think also attack faster.
there is also a skillupgrade you can randomly get in your runs that adds shockwaves shooting around each secound helping to kill stuff while the combo is active.
timing your combotime and moving and killing to extend it can speed up the gameplay and sometimes specially on some bosses save you.
These developers sure don't like to explain anything about their game, do they? They also don't like communicating with their customers here in the forums. Frustrating.
Combo Sphere is a mechanic from the first game, so they expect players to be familiar with it, but that's a bit shortsighted.
Roguelikes are about discovering things by yourself anyway. That's half the appeal of the genre. Some explanations and dropping some clues like NPCs talking about combo spheres coud be a good thing, but people are a bit too used to having their hand held in games.
And they have no obligation to communicate in the steam forums, even if it is a good look. The reverse shouldn't be a bad look, it's standard and justified practice, meaningful dev to player communication isn't always simple, fruitful, or worth the effort.
And we'll have to respectfully disagree about the Steam communication thing. Especially for a smaller indie developer, they absolutely should be reading these Steam forums. They are selling their game here. Lots of small and large developers use these forums to great benefit. I will always support a developer who interacts with their customers here.
and i am pretty sure you will trigger it already before that just by playing the game several times and understanding what happends.
you just lack the info the moment you unlock it if you never played a single hammerwatch game.
its still in the game openly shown to you.
i just told him cause he asked and wanted to know NOW.
they are also known for ironing out a lot of things and adding quality of life stuff so i think this will get improved over the next weeks (some effects are still missing help text etc.)
The developers don't really like explaining core mechanics that have been a franchise mainstay since day one, yes, but that's mostly because in the tutorial they have an NPC tell you to talk to the NPCs to get explanations about things like the core mechanics, but too many people pull that crap of skipping all text and dialog because its not worth their time, then make passive aggressive comments in random online forums about how the devs won't write a personal email to them to explain what they skipped over and apologize for expecting said players to engage with the game.
If you mouse or scroll over the empty skill icons on character stats screen one should show for combo.
Pythios - thank you!
