Lightning damage is bugged
I don't know if it pierces resistance or what but lightning damage deals massively more damage to the player than any other type in this game.

If you're in dark citadel, have fun exploding at random lol. Had a nearly invincible warlock run without even prestige yet, I face tanked both of the boss skeletons of the previous area at the same time without issue, then exploded to a single non-elite mage casting lighting on the 2nd citadel floor.

I dont know if it's a bug or not but damn is it nuts. I specifically was leveling warlock for the passive resists he gives the rest of the characters.

the wizards in the courts section have a fan of lightning lasers that if you stand in front of you will take serious damage. even with -70%DR they can still hit you for well into 300+

Can 100% confirm this, and it's because the lightning is applying far more instances of damage than it should be, like 1-hit per frame.

Earlier today my co-op had a very high parry build going today, barely got touched by a single ray of a lightnings mages cast, and we heard a bunch of "TUNKS" stacked together, and saw nine PARRY pop-ups. In about 0.3-0.5 seconds, he parried 9 instances of damage from lightning and took a couple hits too, doing over 300 damage to his pool of over 700hp(With 173 lightning rez)

I was thinking exactly this earlier. I was playing paladin, and face tanking fire traps and fire turrets with zero issue. But if a lightning trap or wizard grazes me for just a few frames--like one tenth of a second--I instantly die. Lightning damage is bugged for sure.
ive gotten 4 different characters to the courts, several times, and insta-died to lightning mage every time. Has anyone actually made it past them yet? How?
Came here to say that too. The lightning damage has ended almost every one of my otherwise near perfect runs.

I was able to fairly easily get through the courts with a hydra build Wizard. Drop hydra, cast fireball, retreat while spamming arcane missile, repeat. I did have a couple close calls, but with being focused on getting tf out of dodge every time I saw a mage I got through it. Compared to the lightning mages, the courts boss, next area and final boss are relaxingly easy.
Just beat NG+1 on warrior at level 19 in a group on our second go of it, and yeah, there's definitely something up with elemental damage. I first noticed in NG+0 with a good few characters; the lighting casters are wild, and just one-shot most characters on that floor in NG+0 unless you are playing with excessive care.

That, and the wisps on the final floor do a crazy amount and can't seemingly be hit with some status effects that would even let non-shield melee deal with them (like stun). I don't even know what the intent is with the wisps; it was just spamming throwing axes basically as the rest of my kit would have gotten me killed given they can't be stunned, and the two-handed weapons don't have a way to deal with that (like say daggers used to be able to in previous games by destroying projectiles).

Am I supposed to get lucky and find something I haven't? My hammer is only level 17, but my armor is all slightly above 20 (with one at 26), and I don't see how I'm supposed to mitigate the wisp damage without just being weird and throwing axes around a corner like I'm playing fantasy counter-strike. The final boss was much more reasonable then the two floors before it.

The lightning caster floor seems over-tuned, and the wisp flood just seems outright poorly designed. Feels like elemental is over-tuned, but armor is where it should be (at NG+1 at least)?

On another note, I also wonder how non-stun melee characters deals with the shadow casters? Can shields block the shadow curse from NG+ attacks? I assume having a stacking debuff probably makes this a nightmare for a lot of other melee character builds.

The lightning trap you gotta use the pillars to go around insta-killed me in one zap earlier tonight when I had 750~ health, 8 hp/s, and 40~% resists lmao. I was so mad. I even had the phoenix thing that automatically uses a potion when you take fatal damage (I had 4 pots) and STILL was destroyed. It has gotta be a bug with lightning hitting multiple times.

yeah the lightning trap is just as overtuned. 1,100 health, 40% lightning res, ~50-100 health regen, i was able to facetank a lightning cone from the court wizards. tried dipping my toe into the lightning trap to test how dangerous it is and i instantly died

I often use the elemental resistance food, get lightning res gear, attune trinkets for res, upgrade the town to increase res, etc all to not die from lightning.

Warlock with Lightning Lash and Stun. You can keep the Wizards perma stunned through other enemies. Great both solo, and in a party.

In my experience, I've always had shadow curse (even minimum 3 stacks) when being destroyed by lightning in Courts. Then did a run without it randomly and lightning mages didn't feel any worse than other mobs, comfortably barely taking dmg. Didn't encounter lightning traps that time though.

Oh, that's what happened to me yesterday then.. didn't even have time to acknowledge what happened.
I had 100+ light resist and 380 life... ;_;
