Tips on leveling a bit quicker?
I've been playing for about 5 hours and enjoying the game, but getting tired of repeating Forest 1 every run. I've beat the first boss about 6 times and I'm still only level 8.

Is there a way to change the area I start from so it's not always Forest 1, or to level a bit more quickly aside from just doing run after run after run?

You get 3 or 4 shortcuts as you progress the game and there is almost no reason to not use them. Exp goes up dramatically per floor, and gold/resource drops go up but not as much. Using a shortcut will give you more trinkets than you find on a normal run but perhaps 1 or 2 less skill spheres than you could have found.

The other way is to play coop, afaik as long as one character in the group has access to a shortcut, everyone can use it on that run. Once the chapel is higher there is an exp blessing as well.

try to stay close to your area level

There are achievements/titles that give you class points, attribute points, base attributes, and base stats as well. So every subsequent character gets a bit faster and easier to level.

Are the shortcuts super obvious? I was hoping after I killed the first boss I'd get a "checkpoint" so I could start future runs after it, but... not super jazzed about having to kill it over and over and over again and restart at Forest 1 each time

The low spoiler version is the blocked off goblin camp in forest 2 goes to forest 3, and the other shortcut is the dark citadel you find in forest 1 but you can't open it until you meet a dude later on. That dark citadel let's you go to 2 or 3 different floors later on depending on your progress.

They all require you to do forest 1 though. Just grab the skill orb / trinket box and bail asap. Gold/exp is ♥♥♥♥ there.

Oh you feel free to spoil the crap out of it. How do I unlock the goblin camp so at least I can skip the first boss?

Once you get through the mines and kill the totem boss, you can skip the mines by going from forest 2 to forest 3 in the goblin camp.

The dark citadel requires you to find the architect in.. I think barracks or the floor after, then it lets you skip to crypt, which is just before barracks. Later on you get another skip and the number of torches in the dark citadel goes from 2 to 4, and this let's you skip to about 2 bosses before the final boss, so about 60% through the game.

Iirc there are 5 bosses and 1 "don't get eaten by skeletons" miniboss.

I'll have to keep my eyes out... After the 1st boss, I ended up in Forest 3 and didn't see any way back. Next time I was in the goblin camp, it was still totally blocked off...

It might require you to beat forest 3. I think I died a bunch to the totem boss trying diff characters and figuring stuff out, then had one really good run that took me through most of the game so I missed a few flags along the way. I'm not 100% sure what floor unlocks the goblin skip, but it should be pretty early on. Same with architect for citadel skip. He's about 40% through the game.

Keep in mind that shortcuts are only for that character. If that's the issue. Usually, the logs barricading the way to Forest 3 should be gone after the Totem Pole boss.
you have to light the torches in the skip room then pull the lever to skip more bosses (once you have defeated them)

Stupid question, but is this in the boss room? I beat cultist face guy a few times now, plus Arista, but haven't found how to skip face-guy yet.

ohh gotcha! Yeah i killed the plant boss and now im in the barracks, but when I got o the skip room and light a candle and fight, I take the portal and its the plant boss again. So there is a lever in that room I hit after I light a candle ands summon the door?
