My only suggestion would be to try to get to level 10, because (spoiler warning) at level 10 you unlock 3 new subclasses, each with a new ability & passive.
I played ranger as shortsword & shield melee until 10, and it felt a lot better, because I didn't really feel like the bow did enough on it's own. Once I hit 10, it kinda came together.
And honestly in HoHW1 the ranger spin was just kinda stupid, it was like playing a ballerina more like a bow user.
by holding down right click and spamming left.
then it is in this game, This game's ranger isn't fun at all.
his kit literally works better with melee weapons then ranged.
Warlock also is drastically worse then the previous game.
Sorc is deffs not as good either.
So no.
They literally made all the classes boring.
They nerfed things in a PvE game.
I disagree with Warlock being weak, as someone who played it in HoH1 as well. It has easily been one of the easiest classes to just obliterate everything with, and I rampaged past the first 3 bosses with it at level 2 and with almost no town upgrades yet except like the church and the magic one. I took the life leech ability to start and just never had to worry about dying, and got the mana one later. The only thing that did me in was not having enough upgrades to get through past that with reasonable damage, which is something all of my classes faced until I started getting more. The dirk is insanely good as a weapon for the Warlock, and then you just drop tome nukes on things while you're using your ritual to obliterate entire swarms. It's great.
Level 10's subclasses on it are also quite fun and varied, with some potentially interesting mixups available for even stuff like a two handed weapon warlock being possible.
The Ranger though, yeah. The bows feel... off. And the marked shot is easier to make use of with a melee build. Even if you go something like dagger/shortsword and crossbow, the crossbow makes your character jitter uncomfortably in a way that kinda gives me a bit of a headache, which is not a problem I faced with mage ranged weapons. I haven't hit level 10 with that one though yet.
Ranger definitely feels awkward at best and bad at worst to start. Agreed. Every other class has felt much more reasonable to me to start.
Edit: I forgot to say, the Warlock's passive AoE is also great because some of the upgrades you can get for it are things like doing damage every time you cast a spell, and the whip with the fire upgrade is GREAT (lightning seems slightly lacking though?).
