I'm starting to get a bit bored. Help...
Hey guys,

I started the game with the Ranger ... that archer character. I have about 3 hours into the game. I have started to do runs and build my base. I did managed to get to that totem boss, almost killed him but since then, no luck. Generally I don't have a problem with a challenge, but somehow I am bored running the Forest. I know that in theory I could just go directly "down to the caves", but then I will miss upgrades.

So what are your tips? How can I get unbored? :)) I do want to explore the game some more because I am a bit intrigued by it.

It gets much better later. I am from the front "not interested in that kind of game, bought it, still not interested" - it grew on me that I am thinking before sleep how to skill for the next run.

My advice: play multiplayer with other people you can talk with. That keeps you motivated best. A friend for that matter is great, a rival is best.

this 100% i mostly just chit chat with friends and it's fun

So I think I killed the totem with everyone. How do I skip the forest?

thanks :))

EDIT: nvm. The barrier seems to be gone.

I recommend not to skip anything. You can get more trinkets that way, allowing you to accumulate for bonus trinkets such as Markhams which give % per trinket in inventory.

Idky someone told you you need to beat totem with everyone, skips are character specific. To get the skips on ranger only need to beat the requisite boss on the ranger. If you're in multiplayer than only the host needs to have beaten the bosses required for whichever level of skip you're going to do

It sounds like you're starting to enjoy the game a bit more, but go check out "Dad's Gaming Addiction" on YouTube. He has some great videos on the basics of the game. Helped me get into it a lot more

no you don't, if you light candles and win, you'll get all available trinkets and void spheres.
the ONLY downside to skipping would be you skip on materials, gold, and those shrines.
but the materials and gold are very small in the early maps. so basically you just miss out on 2-3 shrines. but thats it

Um, no, this is not correct. Trinkets can be random and occasionally give you more or less but you definitely are missing out on void spheres. 4 candles and looting the first stage only gives you 5 spheres, but progressing to the same level gives you 8 guaranteed, not including any void sphere upgrades from any traders you'll encounter. Skipping also removes priest/cook buffs that usually spawn. If you're going for progression power its definitely better to do the full run.

you have to beat totem first for every character

I don't think I'll ever accomplish that based on what I've seen so far. Some of those classes just aren't evasive enough for me to not get killed by the fire totem. Plus the ranger and wizard have traps, which can passively deal with the goblins while I take on the totem. I'm old, so I need to rely on traps and planning more than quick reflexes.

I wish it would change so I could avoid it just with the classes I've beaten it with. I'm in the same position as the OP. I'm alright with the ranger, gotten to the 2nd boss with them, decent with the wizard, crap with everyone else and with the rogue I'm especially ass. And like the OP, it does get tiring playing the same levels over and over and over - and since my levels are getting higher and the town is getting built up a bit and it costs more to improve things, the return on time spent is diminishing.

I'm getting sick of being gibbed. Almost at the Totem and bang out of nowhere dead. Or getting the Totem down only for it to change and gibb me.

Then go through the whole map again. Not for me...yes I am aware what style of game this is.

honesty give it time. i have NG+2 on all characters. the more achievements you get the more stats and skillpoints you get. like +6 dexterity etc. it really adds up

Yeah I've just been killed by the fire totem again and maybe it's time to take the hint. I'm not usually the type to give up on a game because of stuff like that and I usually like grind, but I'm with you.

Unless I'm playing as the ranger, every single game goes exactly the same:

1. I obliterate everything in the forest and barely even need to slow down.

2. I need to be a bit more careful in the dungeon, but I'm never in any real trouble there either, not bad enough to need a potion or anything.

3. I get to the totem level and the fire totem kills me.

4. Start over with 1.

Not most games. Not, "Oh, well the lightning totem got me this time". EVERY game is like this. All of them. No challenge at all for 30-40 minutes then the fire totem kills me. The totem does too much damage and I'm just not quick enough, and you can't retreat as it can hit you anywhere on the map and you get mobbed by goblins if you leave the center anyway.

I've got something like 17 hours in game now which is more than a fair trial. This game just doesn't match my skillset I guess, which you can be bad at a game and still like it but it's far too repetitive to make losing fun.

Yeah, this is a roguelike and over time my characters improve (but nowhere near fast enough) but in a roguelike every game has to be a little bit different. Part of the roguelike thing is procedural generation. Here you're doing exactly the same thing and fighting exactly the same monsters and walking though exactly the same maps every time. You can only do that so much and have your characters get 3% better every time before it just gets too dull to continue.

honestly if it makes you feel better it feels the same NG+3 lmao. I'm stuck on final boss cause i need better gear, but drops are pretty bad. haven't gotten good gear in like 8 runs
