Does armor help with elemental damage?

I'm currently playing a paladin and I'm taking tons of dmg even in normal non NG+ with like 580 armor. Why am I taking so much damage?

Armor is just physical damage. Resists affect elemental and poison damage. But as you progress through NG+ the inherit debuffs to these are going to guarantee you'll be in the negative.

So ultimately it seems you want to invest more into health and bit in other damage mitigation, parry, block, etc.
