scorching ice staff?

Hi,
I'm trying to figure out, how do element buffs from items apply.
E.g. I got an ice staff that gives bonus to fire damage, however when using it I cannot also have a fire tome or wand to use fire damage?
Does this fire damage bonus then apply to the fireball spell?

if you mean "+x fire damage" it only for staff itself, not fire spells

when it's on a weapon then it's extra fire dmg with the staff
if your item has the prefix Hellfire then you do straight up more fire dmg.

Hmm so if I have a "scorching frost staff" with effects
48 damage
fire dmage +6
Ice damage +42

The fire damage is pretty much wasted, as the staff cannot do fire damage?

It deals additional fire damage
