How to dodge or counter Silence/Disarm
Hey all! :steamhappy:

I've been working on getting my Warlock and Paladin to NG+, but I always seem to have issues when I get to the Courts and Dead Halls with the Silence/Disarm mechanic.

I'm not sure exactly which one is which when playing, and I think it's the wizard enemies that cast this on you? I noticed the new red lines when the wizard is about to cast the lightning spell, and I can dodge it pretty good - but I can't for the life of me figure out how to not get silenced/disarmed.

With the Paladin, I've tried to immediately Shield Bash (stun) all enemies in a group, but even when I stun the entire mob, I still get Silenced and can't cast my Immolate to AoE the mob - and I'm constantly having to heal due to not being able to cast anything.

In he Dead Halls, it seems like all of the "orb" enemies have the ability to Silence you as well, but I don't see a "debuff signal/popup" showing I'm silenced or disarmed. I find myself spamming Immolate and it just doesn't work for quite a few seconds.

Please don't misunderstand, I'm not trying to complain or asking to nerf these enemies - I'm actually very happy that we have enemies that aren't just tomato cans that we can ignore all mechanics and mow them down with ease. I just want to learn to counter and play better.

Anyone have any tips on how to counter this better? Thanks so much!

Tough question. Hard to give you any other answer than "you get the hang of it" by experience.

With that class promotion I personally played it like this: I casted Immolation before engaging, so I get the aura. The wizards are squishy and go down quick enough, and once that is done its hammer time!

In courts, the silencing mages are the ones holding books - a different kind from the lightning mages. Normally, they have to cast a spell which has a small circular AoE which will silence you if you stand in it for too long - this is fairly easy to avoid.

The more problematic thing is that the Elite version of this enemy which is common on Courts 2 has an additional aura which silences you instantly (and constantly) if you get too close to the enemy itself. I usually try to separate the groups of enemies to keep these guys by themselves, or rush in and hit them with my primary weapon as quickly as possible.

The large guys with scythes are the ones that can disarm you. Their main scythe attack is what does it.

Ahh ok, I'll keep at it and get more experience with dealing with the mages. I was thinking I was doing something wrong, aside from not just grouping up too many mobs to AoE down :steamhappy:

Thank you guys so much for getting back to me!
The small mages have an aura that immediately silences anyone in the vicinity, so no more skill use when inside a horde.

The large lich-like enemies disarm on every AoE swing attack, for roundabout 3.0 seconds, at which point you can neither attack nor use your secondary attack ability. It refreshes on every hit.

The icon for disarm is a white circle with red trim. The icon for silence is a grey-ish blob. Both are hard to see within crowds.

The way to work around this is by playing ranged classes and only leveling melee in NG+0 for stats, or equipping ranged weapons on warriors.

This is frustrating because melee is generally a lot of fun in hack'n'slash games, but the HoH2 devs are taking the same approach as the PoE2 devs and making melee crap through melee silence + disarm + shadow curse. Warriors feel ♥♥♥♥ in both games whereas rangers and casters slay everything no problem and likely never even realize those enemies exist.

Can only hope they eventually give in to popular demand and make melee a thing in this game.
if you're a paladin, you can get the upgrade to Lay on Hands that makes you immune to statuses, and you can reduce your cooldown enough to always have this active. also makes allies nearby immune.
