Tough question. Hard to give you any other answer than "you get the hang of it" by experience.
With that class promotion I personally played it like this: I casted Immolation before engaging, so I get the aura. The wizards are squishy and go down quick enough, and once that is done its hammer time!
The more problematic thing is that the Elite version of this enemy which is common on Courts 2 has an additional aura which silences you instantly (and constantly) if you get too close to the enemy itself. I usually try to separate the groups of enemies to keep these guys by themselves, or rush in and hit them with my primary weapon as quickly as possible.
The large guys with scythes are the ones that can disarm you. Their main scythe attack is what does it.

Thank you guys so much for getting back to me!
The large lich-like enemies disarm on every AoE swing attack, for roundabout 3.0 seconds, at which point you can neither attack nor use your secondary attack ability. It refreshes on every hit.
The icon for disarm is a white circle with red trim. The icon for silence is a grey-ish blob. Both are hard to see within crowds.
The way to work around this is by playing ranged classes and only leveling melee in NG+0 for stats, or equipping ranged weapons on warriors.
This is frustrating because melee is generally a lot of fun in hack'n'slash games, but the HoH2 devs are taking the same approach as the PoE2 devs and making melee crap through melee silence + disarm + shadow curse. Warriors feel ♥♥♥♥ in both games whereas rangers and casters slay everything no problem and likely never even realize those enemies exist.
Can only hope they eventually give in to popular demand and make melee a thing in this game.
